Yes I have.

Despite the existence of Darius-R, because of apparently new features (unlike Darius-R, for the most part) and the fact that it is being made for hardware more powerful than used for the last entry (clearly the PSP is stronger than PSX-based hardware, and the SNES was not stronger than arcade hardware made at that time or even later on in the SNES' lifetime), this is clearly the next BIG step in the series (which I do not consider Darius Twin/Force as such).
I can't believe I'm reading this. Anyways G-Darius was made in the arcade on Taito FX-1 not PSX based Hardware.
Not sure how you are coming to this conclusion. I'm looking at this more like Gradius ReBirth which seems to be the direction of it other than they are trying again with the 3d thing. Unless they really make the levels long, you can see by the grid map that there is 11 zones which G-Darius had 15 zones. Say what you want, but I'm also looking at the facts. from 15 to 11.

Uhm... the FX-1 A and B boards are PSX-based.

But who cares what chipset is it coming for? It's a new freaking Darius!

That was exactly what the FX-1 was. That is probably why G-Darius mostly survived its PSX move (certainly not perfect but way better than it could be). It's very much like the Chihiro to the Xbox, example being OutRun2.

And? G-Darius has less zones than Darius' I, II, and III, since it's a prequel (mind the branching paths obviously though the weight of those is debatable). Certainly you don't mean to say that this really has any significance? Taito could easily call "hey this happens before other Darius games" again, or even make each individual stage far better than ever before. They can do that, and they sure as hell seem like they're going to do so!

$156US *before* shipping and handling, and the only t-shirt size you're offered is small.

There are so many parts of that which are wrong that I don't know where to start. Yee-freaking-hikes.

What does being a prequel have to do with having less stages?

Lol. Internet Facts. Yeah, Spec. is correct. Same reason Taito put Ray Storm on the FX-1 platform: so it'd be a smooth port to the PSX for home marketing.

Maybe I worded that wrong (though I explain it somewhat, a bit after this).

It's not a cause, but it's an excuse.

I see there are some audio clips on the official site now, in the 'special' section. I can't listen to 'em at the moment, so let us know what you think! :)

Ah, now it's clear why that song sounds so similar to that 80's jazz piece someone linked - the original song was called "Goodbye My Love", while Darius's "remix" is called "Goodbye My Earth." Is this the first time a Darius game has done something like that?

LOL@ "Great Thing"

Just noticed the Origin ship, here's hoping it's the original bare bones Silver Hawk without burst unit.

I want remixes of "Kimera II" and "Adam", please.

Won't it be awesome if they added custom soundtrack options, like Wipeout Pulse did?

From what I read, it got 7/8/8/7 from Famitsu.

I think the problem with Darius Burst is that so far there hasn't been anything innovative or really exciting. G-Darius has both, which is why it is so awesome despite its many flaws. The bosses are amazingly cool and capturing enemies to counter their lasers is one of the most exhilarating experiences in any shmup.

Checked out the famitsu review at 7-11 today. Sorry to report that one of the reviewers mentioned load time as a reason for his low score of the game. Everyone else however complained about lack of content.

Finally took a look at the Darius page and looked at the whole of stage A. That's looking pretty good. I'm really glad you got the big "G Rev" lasers still going on. That was something I didn't want to lose from the last game.

I pre-ordered mine, so I hope this is good.

Is the 7/8/8/7 score that's going around correct?

Picked it up today.

Fun game. Load times are not a big deal, but there is a slightly long one before you start the game.

Music is gdlk.

You unlock new ships when you beat it. Looks like there's a few modes including view mode, which lets you watch some of the game movies, maybe a gallery mode as well.

Also, in the ending credits it has a "translation" credit, so it seems like this will be localized.

A local version would be great. 50 bucks for the import is a bit expensive.

How would you compare it to the previous two installments?

Can't really compare it as I never spent a lot of time on the Darius series.

Mission mode is pretty cool so far, little installments of levels/boss fights, and when you clear 7 of them it opens up bonus content like a 3d gallery of the bosses (for level 1 so far).

One thing I haven't gotten used to yet is the counter-laser thing. Was this pretty easy to do in previous Darius games? I have a friend who's an expert at Darius (old Arcadia editor) and I let him play the game and he wasn't able to counter any lasers at all. I suspect there's a particular timing to it that I just haven't got yet.

Well, the only one that had it(as far as I know) was G Darius. It was really similar to Border Down's. It wasn't too hard to do. The enemies lasers start off pretty slow, giving you time to get into position. Now, sometimes you won't have enough juice and you'll get flattened. I don't know anything about this game though.

How's the difficulty?

And can you give me any idea how those burst pods work? Looks like you can lock them in place and have them shoot in all directions. How do you do this? Do you have control over them?

To lock it in place, press X twice and move up to direct the laser downwards and down to move the laser up. Having the fire button pressed will make it lock in place. If you want the laser to shoot forward from your ship, just press the X button once and keep it pressed.

The Famitsu page says that to do the counter you have to shoot your laser right before the enemy laser hits you. However, their walkthrough of level 1 shows that you can also shoot your laser and then move in the way of the enemy's laser. Maybe the laser gauge makes a difference since it turns gray when it's full, but I'm just speculating now.

BTW, you can also destroy enemy bullets. Missiles (from main gun) counter missiles, lasers counter lasers, and wave just goes through objects. This is useful in Burst Mode since you can change weapon type.
