Blue Wish Resurrection (x.x, 2006) and BWR Plus (2008)

Post by moozooh »

Mod Edit: This thread is now defunct. New high-score thread here.

BWR is a popular freeware Cave-like doujin shmup from x.x. It has several difficulty settings that will suit both beginners and advanced players. The scoring system is a mix of Ketsui and Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 Original; it's based on proximity bonuses and bullet canceling, allowing high rewards for risk and a fair challenge for everyone.

The most recent version (1.02) can be found here:
http://www.vector.co.jp/download/file/w ... 16461.html

BWR Plus is a remixed version with a new soundtrack, altered difficulty, and other gameplay and scoring system tweaks. For instance, now you can turn Accel mode on and off on any difficulty setting. It is considerably easier than vanilla BWR,

The most recent version (1.11) can be found here:
http://www.vector.co.jp/download/file/w ... 52584.html

Rules:
- single credit, no continues;
- replays required for #1 scores;
- autofire and changing bullet colors are allowed.

BWR scoreboards

Tables are capped at 25 entries per mode.
Accel mode can be selected by selecting Hell and pressing down (likewise with Heaven and up).
Hell mode has a TLB after stage 5 boss.
Stage 3 has a hidden extend. To trigger it, open all ingot fountains on that stage and shoot focused right before the boss warning.
Other bits of info can be found in the third post of this thread (thanks, TrevHead!).

Tables are capped at 10 entries per mode (no, it's not hard to get on them).

BulletMagnet's score submission from one of the old threads ends with 7 on the counter. I'm going to assume this is a typo, but would like to see a confirmation.

Sorry nzero i noticed that after i posted it and ment to mention it when i got a higher score but i ended up giving the game a rest and forgetting all about it untill just now.

It looks like im gonna be keeping the TVR name on this thread but ill make sure to just post with TrevHead and leave the TVR out if i post on anyother threads since youve been using TVR for some time.

Heaven; TVR - 22,324,090 - all - wish - on

Original: TVR - 12,633,760 - 5 - wish - on

Reading the older threads i came across some intresting info on scoring and a free 1up on lv 3.

1) Remain bonus at end of game. 2M/life with guard on, 2.5M w/o.
2) Stage 3 1up. Only appears after activating all 10 item chutes. Slowshot the ground at the end of the stage (but before boss).
3) Item chutes. Activate them ASAP. Memorize their locations. Stuff like that.
4) Pointblanking. Item value decreases as they travel farther, so try to stay as high up on the screen as possible.
5) Guarding bad. There's a penalty of 1/3 collected items for guarding. Bombing is always better than guarding.
6) Bullet cancelling. Time enemy explosions to convert maximum amount of bullets. Other scoring factors tend to take precedence though

1CC heaven mode to get 3rd ship peace
1cc original to unlock 4th ship eden
1cc heaven with all 3 ships to unlock girl eden
1cc hell to fight the true last boss
use bomb when selecting a ship to change ship colour to green

If you don't get hit all that much you might want to look into disabling autobomb, since it's intrinsically detrimental for your score… unless you die a lot, like I do. :)

Welcome to the board, johnwroachiii.

Nice job! If you can consistently no-guard through Heaven, disabling it will automatically boost your score by 3-4 million instantly.

Just started playing this again. Only tiny improvement score wise but I made it to the TLB this time. I know I can get into the TLB with 1-2 extra lives, I just need to stop facerolling stage 4.
Although I really suck at the TLB's second phase so I doubt I can 1cc this at least any time soon ;/

Trainwrecked stage 4 really bad but made a decent TLB fight and ended up having 2 bombs left in the end. Not sure if want to play this mode more

Heaven
Aru-san - 26,132,490 - ALL - Hope - ON

Just started replaying this game. My score's sorta better, thanks to me sucking my pride and playing with auto-guard ON, but I know I can do better.
My personal goal is to hit at least over 30 million by the end of summer.

Pretty fun game. Managed to get the ALL! in a few attempts after learning the stages. The TLB's second phase went really, really badly though and it's probably my biggest regret but I'm happy with this run either way.

Very impressive!

I also accept Plus scores now, since P_HAT's thread hasn't been updated in 1.5 years. All inconsistencies in naming and placing have been fixed. Plus boards have been expanded to 10 places (while vanilla cut to 25).

Thanks for including my score in the board. I had this replay when I first played it. Oh, and Happy New Year!

Sweet, I may want to make a special request to remove my BWR+ 57 mil Hell Eden score since I lost the replay when my desktop crashed a while back and there's absolutely no proof for it anymore(you know, rules are rules, I can't post a replay for #1 spot). I would rather have my 49 mil hope score posted instead so I can have a nice shiny ALL! next to my score.

Hell - Accel Off
DAD- 49,036,410 - ALL! - Hope - ON

Also, in BWR+ you have to clear Hell(Accel On/Off doesn't matter at all) without losing a single life to see the TLB after stage 5 boss. Replay for proof of that and the score:

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but how would I get my arcade stick to work for this game? I have a corded 360 stick, and the driver for it, but I don't quite know where to go from there, and the game won't recognize the stick at all.

This is normal with joysticks, try using JoytoKey or XPadder. Look them up and see what you think, I can personally help with JoytoKey if you go that route.

Actually I consciously accepted your score because at the time it was posted you did make a proof available; the fact that it went down since then doesn't matter now (in all honesty, I barely ever check the replays myself, I maintain this rule as a rule mainly so that witchhunters wouldn't spam my threads with accusations). But since you wish your score to be an ALL!, well, so be it.
