Some strategy to destroy the 3rd stage bosses would be nice.

Just let him time out, it's too risky to fight him and he's only worth 10k points anyway.

You could try to pick the blue weapon, wait for his drones to go away and shoot only the core, but then you might run into a little bug...

Just like the arcade Gradius III Boss. Let him time out. I remember that was a real brick wall on Gradius III before we figured out how to evade and let it time out.

It really says something about the difficulty of a game when people are asking about how to deal with the early Bosses :shock: .
The Jap replay of this game has they guy circling the whole screen on the later stages, not bothering to go for kills. The game is nuts (Japanese Version only!).
A hard challenge.

A replay showing a guy spending 19 minutes facing Stage 3 Boss, dying and continuing n times (Just like me, I love dying for the fun of it) and eventually killing the boss.

You have to admire the persistence of the player.

After numerous attempts, the time out technique doesn't work for me, firstly because i can get there with max speed up, no use of bombs, and firepower and cant joystick-tap my fighter into position when the boss moves down, secondly i still cant do it with my remaing lives because there is no guarantee that ill get an ideal amount of speed up icons once i use a bomb at the restart. Think ill try that blue lazer option for that 3rd stage boss.

It's indeed hard to stay in the safe spot when you're at max speed, but it's no problem at all if you die and don't have any speed ups...the bullets are much slower at this point and it's much easier to survive.

Another thing worth pointing out: when the boss is going up and down, you won't touch those pointy things near the rear jets, assuming you're touching the side of the screen. So when the boss goes down, you can go up to avoid bumping into the drones. But don't stay there when he's going left and right.

I suggest trying to destroy the boss's guns one at a time (i.e. don't go after the second until both layers of the first gun are dispatched). If you can get the timing of the satellites' shots down, just skirt right under them between shots.

I recommend going in with the red weapon to increase your chance of hitting the satellites while you're moving around (and minimize the chance of destroying the second gun's first layer too early).
