Florence Vintage Bit 2009

Post by Turrican »

Yesterday the first Vintage Bit event took place near Firenze, Italy. This first edition was centered on the Sinclair Spectrum.

Here's a list of the models which were being showed: http://www.retrocomputer.org/expolist.asp (ask me a photo if you're curious - although I may have missed some)

I attended to the event and took some photos. Although I'm relatively a stranger to appreciate the finesse of the spectrum scene, it was nonetheless interesting to see many historic models so well preserved and operative. Although the event was kept strictly 8bit, Sinclair's rivals were given some space too: there were Spectrum clones, but also several Commodore models and some Apple.

My interest was soon caught by the MSX exhibitors. They had a very common model, the Philips VG 8020 (the same I have at home), an MSX2 also by Philips and several interesting carts. One device could allow the MSX to read roms from compact flash cards.

Another very sexy item was the MSX in One Chip, which has been discussed on these forums before. The VGA output was amazingly cool so I went back to my home and brought some of my carts, Xevious and R-Type, to take some shots. Along with Zanac, Pleasure Hearts, and of course Laserfight (got by connecting a laptop to this very place), the Vintage Bit became quite shmuppy in the end (another exhibitor showed me a Phoenix clone on the speccy).

I've uploaded some pics (for now just MSX/shmuppy stuff) on Picasa for your pleasure. Enjoy!
