I don't know about that. I almost burst into tears the other day because the games feels so damn hard. It feels way harder than any of the Toaplan stuff I usually play. Oh, and could anyone please help me with a short resume of the scoring system? Never played any of the Raiden games for score before.spadgy wrote:And welcome Dragoforce. Good to have you here mate! Scoring is pretty simple. Use the sub-weapon charge to milk enemies or bosses for 500pts per hit. Homing is the best for this. Also there are hidden Sol locations, little spires that pop up if you hover over them. You can see them as little grey squares sometimes, others are hidden. In the 2nd loop, uncovering these makes a miclus appear soon afterwards.

Re: Raiden IV - Xbox 360/Arcade
Thanks! But what does sub-weapon charge mean?
Re: Raiden IV - Xbox 360/Arcade
If you don't fire, the sub-weapon charges (ship surges electricity after 1.5 secs or so) and unleashes on fire.

Does milking with sub-weapons result in more points than speedkilling for multiplier? I always make sure I get one or two good subweapon bursts in before I kill a boss, but I've always assumed multiplier was king.Aquas wrote:Scoring is pretty simple. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I'm finding that playing a round or two of Double takes the edge off.I almost burst into tears the other day because the games feels so damn hard.
Re: Raiden IV - Xbox 360/Arcade
I don't know, but if you watch one of the top replays on XBL you'll see the player charge very often -- pretty much do it everywhere they get an extra second or so to do so. I assume this is how they get the brunt of the extra 8-10 million ontop of other top scores.CStarFlare wrote: Does milking with sub-weapons result in more points than speedkilling for multiplier? Thanks all for your comments. And a slight correction, that tea was actually blueberry green tea w/ honey . (that is the secret key...!)
There was multiple occassions where I had thought I had enough practice to pull off the X360 mode clear only to find that select mistakes and parts during stages and bosses would have me go back into practice mode to help ensure my safety through out the runs. When I got the Arcade mode clear, I thought the X360 mode clear would come pretty quickly but I was wrong. Stages 5 and 6 are hell. It surprised me it took another 2-3 months of practice each day, 15 minutes to an hour on average, to finally get the clear.
Much of this practice just cementing rote memorization in my head. Cementing down the "what I'm supposed to do" at every situation, and then getting the execution for everything. Execution was probably not as important as memorization in this game, but specific boss bullet patterns and specific places during stages would need spot on execution. In the end, I just had to tell myself to have confidence despite being afraid of dying at certain parts because without it, nerves would always get to me and I'd over-dodge in a clutch spot and the run would be over. When I say I cemented down what I'm supposed to do at every situation, I mean it, I had a plan for every single part of the game. Panic-bombing was not included in my practice sessions at all. No tolerance for a lack of knowledge about a certain passage -- is what got me through.
Also the ability to pause the game, that really tided the odds in my favor this time. Getting to collect myself, catch my breath, let my heart rate drop. I probably paused 15-20 times during this last run: to itch my face or a few times, to just take deep breaths
If anyone's thinking of going for the x360 mode ALL: you'll definetely have to study some of the top replays. I'm kind of lucky I had the resource of the few japanese players on the rankings to take notes from, I used many of their techniques. ... I think I've contributed some variations on survival tactics in my final run, too, though Cheers.

Re: Raiden IV - Xbox 360/Arcade
I don't think I will. Too frustrating to clear to begin with, however, I'm probably going to do a more score oriented run for the Arcade mode. At least to get in the top 10.

Re: Raiden IV - Xbox 360/Arcade
This is my first post in the high scores thread, and sadly I have no screen shot atm.
Was playing the xbox 360 version, on normal with 3 ships to start, and scored 11,110,306!
I am pretty new to this whole shmup thing, so I was pretty excited about this. Also just found out that you can charge in this game. did not know that.

Welcome! Great to see somebody relatively new getting involved in high score tables. It's the best thing to do to get better and get more from the game. Well done on a very decent start.
One thing - please do submit scores in the proper format. Here's how yours should be:
X360 Mode
dunpeal2064 - 11,110,306 - 1-? - Raiden MKII (?)
I'll pop it in for now, but could you confirm the level you got too (1-3 means first loop, third level), and the ship you used (Raiden MKII is the default red player one ship)).
Thanks, and good luck on improving your score!
And updated!

Re: Raiden IV - Xbox 360/Arcade
Ah ok I see. I will do that from now on. I actually still haven't got the other 2 ships yet. Not too sure if they are worth it or not.
X360 Mode
dunpeal2064 - 11,110,306 - 1-3 - Raiden MKII
Those were both pretty good guesses actually. lol.

Re: Raiden IV - Xbox 360/Arcade
Thanks so much!
The only reason I use Raiden MKIIß (It's just the player two version of the main ship - nothing to download!) is force of habit from playing Raiden DX. In DX, The (red) player one ship Raiden MKII moves faster on its Y-axis (up and down the screen) than on its X-axis.
Meanwhile, the (blue) player two ship Raiden MKIIß moves fasters on its X-axis than on its Y-axis.
(Somebody what to point out that I got something the wrong way around there? )
I always preferred the two-player ship in DX, so just developed a soft spot for Raiden MKIIß.
Anyway - I think in Raiden IV the ship behavior is identical for both ships. That's certainly the case when playing double-play.

Actually. You're manly enough. Why don't you hit up some double play and play Raiden like it's meant to be played you macho bastard?
And... scoreboard modernised.

Re: Raiden IV - Xbox 360/Arcade
I've had this game since it came out but just got around to really playing it. It's a lot of fun and a nice switch from Cave's flavor. I'm liking it much more than Raiden III.
Arcade
Shalashaska - 23,358,830 - 1-5 - Raiden MKII
Double
Shalashaska - 12,464,560 - 1-3 - Raiden MKII
I got a 24Mil 360 score but it was done offline so I won't post it. My gamertag or whatever is ShalashaskaEx (I have a few of you on my friends list already).
Sort of OT. For the achievements that require you to 2-all the 360 mode on the different difficulties, those have to be done on 1 credit correct? You can't credit feed for them? If so that's

Good to see more people playing this because it is FREAKIN' AWESOME!
And yes, those are 1cc 2-ALL achievements. I got the Ace achievement for 1cc'ing 360 mode on Original. They went balls to the wall--awarding achievements for 1cc's on higher difficulties.

Were they PCB or 360 scores? And was the Double score in arcade mode?

What an addicting game!! Just got this two weeks ago ( New 360 owner here ).
Quite hard and frustrating but i always come back for more, finally no missed third boss without bombs!
My latest score: xbox360/arcade

Anyone else think the soundtrack in this game is killer?
