Collect stuff at the top of the screen (specifically the Item Get Border Line, where the point amount goes gold, if you will). The higher you are, the more the dream meter increases, and the lower the Item Get Border Line goes so it'll be easier to keep building it.

The Dream icon makes it full automatically. Dying and bombing drops it. Missing stuff drops it.

Khoa, your dream meter rises a lot when you graze a lot of bullets, too. Try starting Extra stage, and just graze the first few waves of bullets that come at you.

It doesn't seem to go up as fast during bosses though. Collecting point items at the top of the screen seems to be effective, as previously mentioned.

Oops, never updated my score. Thought the screencap was long gone, but it's still sitting there.

Normal - Mima

I recommend that you go for the no-miss and beat Heartbeam.

*Hearts go out to those that helped me understand the Dream system.

I've finally come to the conclusion. I loved Touhou before Amusement Makers ever split up.

I don't know, I'm not a very dedicated person to these games. It was a wonder run without frustrating restarts and if you topped it I'd probably leave it alone for a while until a burst of inspiration to play several months later. Wait, what you said still applies.

One more for today.

Though I didn't beat Heartbeam's score, I'm extremely proud of this run because it's a no-miss, no-bomb.

Stroke of genius up to the last phase then just as bad as the first time, if not worse. I didn't see your new Extra run before I ran this, I promise.

If I hadn't blindly streamed into the wall on her second phase...

285 point items collected, maybe I'll try running to the POC and bombing every other phase.

Wouldn't that adversely affect your dream meter though, and minimize your total gain by not allowing for the 400,000 point-per-item values every other phase then? I mean, you don't need to go to the POC to get the max item value when your Dream meter is maximized, and you do when it isn't, and even then, it's nowhere close to 400,000. The way I see it, you'll break even at best, unless you happen to time every other pattern perfectly so you get a ton of point items on-screen at once to compensate for the phases where your dream meter isn't maxed.

Just a thought.

If I'm reading correctly (nope, never paid attention) then all items automatically collected through the bomb are worth their max value assuming the dream meter was already full at the time of bombing. Oh, that makes running to the POC pointless after all. I'll check right now to compare the increase in score with the number of items picked up.

Well, so much for that idea. Thank you for saving me the trouble, I'd probably pay no attention to how slowly the score was moving when aiming for another decent run.

I suppose it would be a little more effective if going to the POC attracted all items on screen to you like it does in later games. :o

Not much to say about the performance. Trying to beat J Lau's Normal score of 103M but the past three runs have ended with two to three misses to something different every time. At least the routes are straightforward, or so I hope that's all they'll ever be.

Sure. And there's a reason why it doesn't.

Ye scroll of deeds is covered in moon letters! TranceHime scraped up something quick. Going in order:

Code: Select all

                Assessment of Ability
Difficulty
Final score
Times you died
Times you bombed
Game Achievement Rating | game completion %, probably
Exorcism rate | enemy kill % (of all enemies seen), of course
Item Collection rate | point item collection (of all point items revealed)
Highest Point item Collection rate | same as above, but considers highest point items collected (score numbers in yellow)
Focus
Rate of dropped processing (?) | slowdown
<lgb> that would be slowdown
<TranceHime> Yeah, I was thinking that was slowdown

Code: Select all

Your ability | could be points earned of points possible, notice the "point" kanji
<lgb> and I guess that would be the amount of points possible for how long you get
<lgb> *got

Code: Select all

You finished | not sure, I think that would mean you didn't continue
Goal: Bomb more, and you'll live. | I reckon this changes depending on how you play, like a tip; I don't think LLS has these
<lgb> what would "you finished" mean? no continues?
<TranceHime> It means you cleared it. Pretty sure there's a different message if you had no continues
<lgb> but I didn't clear it, obviously
<lgb> I just picked Yuka, set the difficulty to Lunatic, and let the bullets have at me
<lgb> and I didn't continue
<TranceHime> Or maybe it just means you're done.
<lgb> maybe. seems kinda silly just to say "hey that's the end of the day" without any real reason, but oke

--------
Other than the obvious difficulty setting, score, and slowdown do you not have to submit this information whenever you post a score. I asked TranceHime and provided this so that not only I, but others could at least try to figure out what all this meant.

As such, any corrections would be appreciated.

edit: The clear screen says "legendary man" instead of "you finished". The goal is different of course.
