Ibara ship movement issue
Ibara ship movement issue
I've been playing Ibara today (PS2 conversion) and I've noticed that something was wrong with its playability, at least compared with other Cave's conversions to PS2, which I also have. I think the problem is the movement of the ship. I bet it moves faster forward and backwards than it does left and right. Have you noticed this? This doesn't happen in other danmakus by Cave. I'll see if this issue is also present in Cave/Raizing games such as Battle Garegga and Bakraid.
Apart from this, another thing I'm missing in this game is the possibility to use slow but precisse control by keeping the fire button pressed. I suppose this innovation has a name. Was Cave that invented it? It's really a must for me now. Is it present also in newer shmups by Cave or have they removed it?

No, it´s present in all their newer "Cave-y" games as well. Only the Yagawa games don´t have it.Elaphe wrote:Was Cave that invented it? It's really a must for me now. Is it present also in newer shmups by Cave or have they removed it?
As for the issue you described I haven´t noticed something like that in Raizing games - and I played Batrider and Bakraid a lot. I have never played Ibara enough to really notice that (I was too busy being angry at the loading times and not being able to properly see what´s going on). Sounds like a serious issue to me. As far as I remember the Arrange Mode has the button-slowdown, so you might wanna try that.
Ive never took any notice of this issue you talk about just treat the game as its own rather than expecting every cave game to share the same qualities ,believe me the last thing you want in this game is a button to slow you down . I think you should play arrange mode its basically a cave rendition of ibara with cave style play youl probably enjoy it more , so many people seem to struggle to grasp ibara ? i dont get it .

Yes. It's a rubbish port of the arcade game.Elaphe wrote:I've been playing Ibara today (PS2 conversion) and I've noticed that something was wrong with its playability

people keep saying this yet im running it through component cables on an lcd screen and it looks clear as can be a little washed out in colours from the arcade board but thats about it oh and less slowdown .Chi_Ryu wrote:Yes. And loading times, and crap filters applied to the graphics. And - since you are running it through an LCD screen - most probably display lag.clp wrote:people keep saying this yet im running it through component cables on an lcd screen and it looks clear as can be a little washed out in colours from the arcade board but thats about it oh and less slowdown .
Ibara was the very first Cave game I bought and played (and, yes, the PS2 version that I picked up in Akihabara was the first one I got), but it is a poor port of the arcade PCB (especially since it is such a cheap PCB to buy).

Cave didn't invent this mechanic. It's nearly 3 decades old, and can be seen in an arena shoot-em-up as early as Solar Fox (circa 1981 by Bally Midway)...Elaphe wrote: (...)

Re. x/y speeds being unequal in Ibara: This is also present in various other shoot-em-ups; e.g. Raidens P1/ P2 ships, IIRC... And intentional...

Oh noes, CD based games have load times! The horror!Chi_Ryu wrote:loading times
There is no filter on Ibara's graphics, and you can apply a deinterlace patch to make it progressive scan. You're thinking of Mushi PS2 port.Chi_Ryu wrote:crap filters applied to the graphics.
If you have a shitty or really large LCD, yeah, there is display lag. Most LCDs don't.Chi_Ryu wrote:And - since you are running it through an LCD screen - most probably display lag.

Re: Ibara ship movement issue
The load time in PS2 Ibara is pretty damn awful and just horrible handled all around. If you have a PS2 with a poor laser or the game otherwise takes longer to load than normal, it will actually screw up the stage slightly (not enough enemies at the start of Stage 1, for example). Putting the game on hard disk doesn't even really help the load time which suggests the load time delay is probably hard coded in there, which is just extra awful.Udderdude wrote: Oh noes, CD based games have load times! With DDP, ESPG, and Mushi all being much better with load times, there's no reason why Ibara should have been that bad at all.
The vast, vast majority of all LCDs have input lag. You would have to specifically go out of your way to buy one that was known not to have input lag to get one, or just get very lucky when you bought one.If you have a shitty or really large LCD, yeah, there is display lag. Most LCDs don't.

Good job, two factual errors in one post! And I see someone else has already elaborated on what I meant by "loading times," so I've nothing more to say.

Agrees, just enjoy the PS2 port as its own rather then compare. I've never played the Arcade version but I love Ibara for the PS2 even though its crazy hard. I'm not going to let the difference change my enjoyment of the game.clp wrote:Ive never took any notice of this issue you talk about just treat the game as its own rather than expecting every cave game to share the same qualities ,believe me the last thing you want in this game is a button to slow you down . I do however understand completely why some hate the port but to me I'm satisfied enough.
Are you sure, I thought that patch was to get it back into 240p. I know the one talked about on here was anyway...and you can apply a deinterlace patch to make it progressive scan.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
That's deinterlacing (well, at least it has the same effect - outputting 240p instead of 480i)Strider77 wrote:Are you sure, I thought that patch was to get it back into 240p. I know the one talked about on here was anyway...
