Ys VI PC English patch released

Post by kozo »

Ys, not Y's, VI has been translated into English.

http://ys6.figlidigaucci.eu/

Go grab it and enjoy. The guys who made this have been working on it for quite a while and put great effort into it. They are currently in the stage of fixing a few typos but it's basically there and ready for prime time.

Ys VI did have an English release on the PS2 thanks to Konami's port, but in the process, it gained poor voice acting, replaced the 2D sprites with 3D models, hurt the resolution of textures and dropped the framerate. This translation is a full retranslation and uses no text from Konami's script. Now you can play it as it was meant to be by Falcom, on the PC and full of goodness.

Be warned that Ys VI is the crappiest game in the whole series IMHO. :) But their translation is good! ;)

Also, don't mind the cute Engrish on the project page - the lead hacker is Italian (a very nice guy, and is learning English quickly), but the text was translated by a native English speaker. I believe they are planning an Italian release later.

Ahh finally. I don't care that much for part VI either, but at least now there's
a decent english version available compared to that crapjob 573 did...

swapping ma lovely cute Adol sprite with a crappy 3d model... pffff.

Thanks for the link bro :)

Heh, even if this is the suckiest game in the series, it's still a pretty fun bunch of games to put some time into. I've never played the PS2 one, so this'll be totally fresh for me. Also, as a random side note, in a month Ys 1+2 will have like their 89019403rd release, this time on the DS (well, the North American release anyway). I'm not enormous enough of a fan to throw my money toward that, but I guess some people can be celebrating it.

Great point - even though Ys VI sucks for an Ys game, it'sn still fun game period. :)

I hate to say this, but avoid Ys I and II DS. I've played the JP version. It's a very, very poor reflection on the series, moreso than Ys VI. Really bad, budgety, cell-phone quality. Shame on Falcom for licensing it out to Interchannel Holon. Ah well. ;) Go for Ys I and II Complete for PC instead!

Speaking of Ys PC games that were also on the PS2, I was looking at Amazon JP and noticed that there were Ys IV and V PS2 releases. Were these on the PC at any point and if so, how playable are they w/o jp reading skills?

Oh yeah, man...forgot about those abominations. :D

They are pretty low quality. Like, REALLY budgety. Shame on Taito.

That said, they still have some kind of sleazy appeal, but they are both cut graphically and story-wise from their SFC (and PCE for part IV) counterparts. I played and beat them both within a couple of days, very short, very linear, and Ys IV especially suffers from repetitive gameplay. As in, you get lost because every room look 100% identical. They totally jacked the stories of both games, putting stuff out of order and seriously cramping Ys V's epic storyline into a weird, anti-climatic mush (and cut like half of the dungeons and OST in the process.)

Seriously avoid unless you a) have played the original versions, especially of V, or b) you enjoy suffering. And no, neither are on PC because Taito made them. Falcom had nothing to do with the development of both remakes, unlike Ys VI port.
