Just got back from Dave and Busters
I was at DB today and saw this multi game arcade cab called Ultracade. It had several games from the past Street Fighter, some shmups like Truxton II and Varth. I gave it a try and was like this emulation sucks. SF had tons of slowdown and the music skipped. I read these machines were using a proprietary OS and emu with a custom frontend. Then i read they ripped off Mame and just used a custom OS. Either way is sucked, but the visuals looked nice on the hi-res monitor. On a brighter note thay had a new addition called Let's go Jungle from SEGA (light gun game) all i can say is it was sweet. Very nice graphics. Also HOD 4 is now starting to show its age despite being awesome. I hope the port this to PS3 like Time Crisis.

lets go jungle is a nice little game. I like the bit at the end were it give you a score as a couple.

From what i read these machines are completely legal for commercial use. All the games have been licensed from there respective owners unlike other multi arcade cabs.Jockel wrote:jonny5 wrote:emulation+profit= illegal

I used to hang out with a friend of mine who worked overnight shift in a hotel. There was an ultracade machine in the lounge and about the only game that was playable with the controls was Mega Man Power Battles. All the shooters and fighters were unplayable because diagonals didn't register. They eventually took it out so I went back to playing the Arkanoid cocktail table.
Feedback will set you free.

Ultracade was based out of San Jose, CA. At one time, LX Rudis was an employee working for them. How I know this because Mr. Rudis watched me play Klax running on an Ultracade cabinet setup. Yes, control inputs were sluggish at times. Got to Wave 100 twice and did end up scoring over 6,000,000 on the last day of the 2001 California Extreme show. Then it was an impromptu Q&A session about Klax and his contribution to it on the original Atari Games PCB version and the NES Tengen version of the same name. Interesting experience indeed. ^_~
Mr. Rudis said that he has never seen anyone play Klax as well as I did (during both days at the 2001 CAX show). Especially from someone who did some work on the real Klax PCB back in 1989-1990. ^_~

The one they had was a UltraCade 33". The sticks and buttons worked great as did all the diagonals and there was no input lag from the games i did play. The cab looked pretty new and nobody was really interested except me because i like old games.

Playing Exed Exes and 1942 on these is pretty nice. Ghosts 'n' Goblins is always the harder US ROM but I usually get high score anyway because no one else cares. Actually, come to think of it, I hate the springy buttons, they make my hands hurt. And the angle hurts my wrists.
