Good NES Zapper games (other then Duck Hunt)....

Post by dave4shmups »

Duck Hunt is the only NES Zapper game I've ever played, so I'm wondering what else is out there that's good for the Zapper. On www.nesguide.com (a GREAT resource for NES games) I saw some footage of "To The Earth" that looked pretty good.

Any suggestions?

Man, I loved Safari Hunt on the SMS-and the SMS even has Taito's Space Gun as a Light Phaser game!

Wild Gunman, Barker Bill's Trick Shooting, and Hogan's Alley come to mind, those require the zapper, as well as Sunsoft's Freedom Force.

Thanks guys, those all look pretty good! How well does Bayou Billy play using the d-pad, as that is an option? I would ask the same question about Laser Invasion.

Please keep adding to list, if there are any more, thanks! :D

Nothing more to add more than that I strongly recommend baby boomer! Great fun! Especially in multiplayer :)

Bayou Billy plays fine with the Dpad.

No idea about the other game.

I have freedom force. Pretty decent game.

I have the gray gun not the orange. Does anyone know if the NES Zapper works with the newer televisions? If not, we should as a society trash the new screen technology.

No, this game is not Space Invaders.

The Zapper shouldn't work on anything but CRT TVs.

As many others have said, Freedom Force and Gumshoe are probably the best. Freedom Force has power-ups and different types of enemies and plays a lot like a more primitive version of Lethal Enforcers. It is probably the most sophisticated gun game on the system. Gumshoe is entirely unique. It plays like a platformer in a way. This character walks across the screen and you can have to shoot him to make him dodge obstacles and shoot enemies as they come at him. Cool and quite hard.

Hogan's Alley and Barker Bill's Trick Shooting are both simple but well-designed games.

What about stuff for Superscope and those Time-Crisis Guns?
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

I can't speak for the original Guncon for the first Time Crisis, but I've used the Guncon 2 for the PS2 and played almost all of the Time Crisis games for it, and they ROCK! The Guncon 2 is supremely comfortable-if you've ever played any of the Time Crisis games in the arcade, you know they use a foot pedal for ducking. On the Guncon 2, you just hit a small button.

Awesome games! I haven't played Time Crisis 4, but that will be one of the first games I get if I ever get a PS3. I've heard mixed reviews as to how comfortable the Guncon 3 is. I do hope that more shooters are released for it.

Oh, and for those fellow Wii owners, you should definitely get the Nyko Perfect Shot-it's much more accurate and comfortable then the Wii Zapper. I have House of the Dead 2 and 3, and Ghost Squad-both are good, but I like Ghost Squad the best.

TC1 and TC Project Titan are nice additions, but they look kinda choppy on the old PS1 and skimpy with the amount of time they give you. However, I prefer the Guncon 1 to the Guncon 2. There's more real state for your hands and the action button is placed in a more comfortable position.

TC2 and TC3 for the PS2 are must haves for any light-gun fan. They're improved arcade ports. TC2 arcade looks like shit compared to TC2 home. TC3 just removes some slowdown. Both add a shitload of extras. Of course, you don't have the arcade guns with recoil and the pedal, so you still have some motivation to go to the arcades.

There's also Vampire Night and Ninja Assault on the PS2. VN is real nice and kinda feels like House of the Dead. The story is even worse than Time Crisis (and you thought that was impossible) and they could have added more detail to the levels. Ninja Assault is average but far from the worse. All I have to say is ninjas with guns.

Battleclash and it's sequel, Metal Combat are both very sweet. Sort of fighting game-ish games where you fight mecha using the light gun. Mechs have different weak points and you can even blow off their limbs.

I need to pick up a GunCon 2. I have TC2, but no light gun to go with it. :(

Has anyone play this game before?

It was a later release for the NES and I never get around to a chance to play it. I am looking for Zapper games too, as I recently got a old fashioned CRT bubble screen television (I completed Snatcher about two months ago :D )

Otherwise, I am throw recommendations for:

Gumshoe
Freedom Force
Gotcha! (it may wear thin after a while)

and for the Sega Master System:

Rescue Mission (one of the best!)
Missle Defense 3-D
Rambo III

My favorites are Gumshoe and Rescue Mission because they are uniqueness!

Time Crisis 4 only supports 720p on the PS3 and comes with a single Guncon3 light gun setup. The USA version of TC4 comes with a different colored Guncon3 compared to the Japanese version of the same name which has an all-black colored variant.

I bought the USA version of TC4 w/Guncon3 bundled package on day one of release from my local Gamestop. ^_~

Here's what the Japanese version of TC4 w/ bundled Guncon3 controller looks like courtesy of NCSX:

and here's the USA version:

Yeah. To The Earth okay. The enemy ships move far too fast and you have fire exceptionally quickly to hit them meaning that it is exhausting to play. Also there isn't much variety to the design. The ships just get fast and faster.

As for Gotcha!: it's an exceptionally cool idea (capture the flag mixed with a light gun game) but it is disgustingly easy. On the hardest difficulty I can play until I get so bored I just turn it off.

Not that well. The game was designed for rapid fire, which the Zapper wasn't made for. The controller needs to be used along with the light gun to fire grenades, which is a bit awkward.
