I noticed today on Google's search engine site, there is an option to try it out dating back from 2001: http://www.google.com/search2001.html

I like the number count as well...how it used to be back in the day. ^_~

Ha, brings back memories. Although I seem to recall when I switched from Altavista to Google back in 2000, there was no page count...

Brings me back to the days when there was still a little competition. Google would really benefit from a clustering tool like Clusty/Vivisimo uses.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

That ancient Google logo is misleading...I originally wrote a post about how I didn't remember it looking like that back in 2001, and I was right - at least so says Wikipedia. The current logo has been used since 1999; see this article for an image of how Google's page looked when they used that old logo (lol @ the green and gray boxes; funny that things have gotten simpler since then).

Or some competition :D

Speaking of which...that Wiki Links projects came and went, didn't it? It was going to be the next big thing but I haven't heard squat about it since then.

Here is an old Shmups Mk Trading Station listing from 2002 using this old Google index engine:

You might see some old shmupper monikers still going strong today. ^_~
