Is there a Star Wars shmup?
I was half-watching Cartoon Network, and it suddenly seemed to me that I was seeing an add for a shmup! Unfortunately, I didn't get a good look at it, but it seemed to be an ad for one of those plug-and-play joysticks that contained only Star Wars games.
Did I hallucinate this or is there really a Star Wars shmup out there?

Only old Star Wars games I can think of are the two original vector games (shooting, but not shmups), and Return of the Jedi, which was isometric for the most part and also had some shooting aspects.
Of course, if you don't mind the vectors (some of us grew up with these and still love them), the original Star Wars game rocks untouchably. Needs to be played in the original sit-in cabinet for maximum effect.

There is 1 Star Wars Shmup...or at least something as close to a shmup as the original Defender.
Empire Strikes Back on the 2600 was a horizontal/defender style shooter where you took a speeder and blasted AT-ATs to death...they also lobbed mortar-esque shots at you from their rear....very inaccurate, but amusing

Well, Star Wars does have alot of shmupping potential. Just look at all the different ships in the series.
A X-Wing would be well balanced obviously
The Y-Wing is slow but has very good defensive abilities
An A-Wing could be fast as hell but have very weak firepower.
The Millenium Falcon could be an unlockable ship.

Shmups: It's all about blowing stuff up!
I remember seeing a 2600 or arcade game in which you piloted the Falcon under the second Death Star's shields, and after destroying 10 or 20 Tie fighters, you could pass through a hole in the shield, to hack away at the Death Star's core. And start all over again.
I think that's the most shmuppy of all the SW games.

Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

There is a Star Wars shmup hidden on one of the GBA games...
I'll just quote what I wrote in another thread...

Thunder Force wrote:The terrible GBA game "Star Wars: Flight Of The Falcon" has an unlockable side-scrolling shmup in it. You fly the Millennium Falcon shooting down waves of Tie Fighters against a simple scrolling starfield. You have one life, with an energy bar and a large hitbox. You shoot down Imperial Shuttles for powerups, and the powerups give you things like wingmen in X-Wings that follow you around like the multiples/options in Gradius.
