Norhwesterners: let's try to get a Mushi cab at Illusionz?

Post by Tomtom »

So, I went over to Illusionz yesterday (an arcade in Issaquah, WA) because I've heard about it and had a day off with really nothing to do. So I wound up playing a lot of Bemani, which was cool and a hit embarassing, and took a look around, to find (unexpectedly) that there were no shmups around. While this was no surprise, I later went to their website and found this:

Feedback? Have a suggestion? Would you like to see a new game, new prize item, or different food in our cafe? Send your feedback or question to info at illusionz dot com (address tinkered with). The owner reads each and every email.
So, this got me thinking. Sure, it's a lot of money, but they have a large Bemani collection, including 4 DDRs (though some are broken), 2 Para Para Paradises, Pop'n Music, Guitar Freaks and DrumMania, and a ton of other big, apparatus-driven machines. Also, they have other stuff bringing in money besides the arcade (laser tag, theater, cafe). Might it be worth asking? It certainly seems more flexible than, say, Gameworks, being independently owned and all. Maybe if enough interest from folks around the area was shown, it could be possible to get Mushi or something equally rad. Anyway, I'm planning to write an email to him asking about it.

If it's independantly owned and not a corporate chain, like you said, I'd go there and person and ask to speak with either the manager or the owner. Maybe you can agree on a deal to front some of the money for the cabinet or something. I just personally think it's better to appear in person if you want something. It's worth a shot, especially for shmup fans in the area and others who are sick of bemani and would like something else to play.

Tomtom - Don't hesitate, just talk to the manager in person and send an e-mail. In fact, everyone should do this in every arcade that's local to them (if they're fortunate enough to have one  ).

Don't be shy, just do it.

Mills & I are always doing this at Casino Arcade; we get results too. We've had Strikers 1999 installed in the last 3 weeks, Strikers 1945 re-installed etc...& of course we're very lucky to have had Mushihimesama there since late last year. I'm currently trying to coerce John the owner into getting Raiden III in.

There pretty much hasn't been anywhere to play shmups around here since Game Plays in the Factoria Mall closed down. At the time, they had Radiant Silvergun (in a US STV cab though), Raiden Fighters, Viper Phase 1, Raystorm, Sky Shark, 1944, Sol Divide (not really so much a shmup, but it was made by Psikyo), Aero Fighters and Strikers 1945.

*sigh* I know. Where did all those cabs go, anyway? I guess some lucky folks bought them off the owner or something. I wish I would have been clued in, though, I'd have tried to get that Sky Shark...

Anyway, I may try getting down again next week. It's a heck of a bus ride, though, takes over an hour from where I live (Northgate area). I should try and get some friends to go with. I'll try and get an email out there before then, too.

Is Ibara out yet? It looks simply delicious, but I know it'll be more costly.
