PatriotDark

Post by Aru-san »

Now accepting version 1.0b scores. You can download the game here (freeware confirmed).

PatriotDark is a doujin shmup made by Temperance Lance that borrows gameplay elements from the DoDonPachi series, a mix between Espgaluda and Ketsui, and the Raiden Fighters series. You can play 5 levels of mayhem, topped with a final boss in the full version. Music's not too great, but it's possible to replace the music if one has an audio editor with OGG exporting.

Submit in this format:
Name - Score - Stage Reached (up to 5)(use ALL if you passed 5) - Ship Used - Comment (optional)(up to 32 letters)

You can either post in this forum or PM me your score. You can submit a new score if you want to update your score if it's already listed.

Note: Those that all cleared PatriotDark prior to the full version's release will now be marked with an ALL D (D is short for Demo). All scores done with version 1.0a or 1.0b of the game will be marked with the letter of that respective version (a for 1.0a and b for 1.0b).

You can look at complete high score tables here. The scoreboards below will display the top and bottom 5 of each score board.

A short treatise from Aru-san

Post by Aru-san »

Little tips for scoring:

- The more bullets, the more gains. The more gains, the more points.
- Don't die. Otherwise, your gains (with a x500 point bonus in the end of a level) will be cut in half, you will lose a life (with a x100,000 point bonus in the end) and will result in a loss of bonus points.
- If there are any extra parts (aside from the main body) to a boss, destroy them with your laser shot to earn gains.
- As with the DoDonPachi series, CHAIN. Doing so will lead to bonus points (your max combo for that level x 1,000) in the end. Using the laser shot will pause the meter, however killing too fast will result in breaking the chain.
- Extends are 15,000,000 points and 45,000,000 points. There is also an extend in the mid-boss on stage 3 if it is no-missed. By the end of stage 3, provided you successfully 1-life clear this version will result in a 500K end-of-game life bonus (at least for the 2008/07/04 version).
- Memorize where the auto-gain portals are. You will know if you have hit an auto-gain portal when you see small, glowing marks spinning. Hover over them for a few seconds to activate them. Activating those not only gives you gains, but it also rewards 500K for activation.
- If your laser gauge is depleted and there are no small enemies to release crystals (to replenish the laser gauge), bomb to turn all bullets that hit the bomb into crystals. The bomb serves only for enemy destruction and crystal conversion and will not even touch any aspect of the scoring system.

1CCing any difficulty will unlock Extra.
1CCing Extra will unlock a Dark version of the ship you cleared Extra on. These ships will show up as Type-A2 or Type-B2.

Seconded. It'll come eventually...I hope.

Time to put in some scores I didn't put in yet (probably because of the lack of high score submitters on this board).

This play-through was actually sloppy. I broke my Stage 3 chain before the midboss, and I lost a life at the very end of the Stage 3 boss. But this game's a fun diversion, anyway.

Not the best run by any means, but I'll post it anyway in the hopes of breathing life into this topic and encouraging people to post more scores. I'll report back when I reach my target of 80 million.

Version 1.0 has been released. The full version has 5 stages. I only played a few runs, this game is pretty damn good though.

Easy:
spongdangly - 38,871,750 - Stage 5 - Type-B (Moruten)

Normal:
spongdangly - 33,356,940 - Stage 3 - Type-B (Moruten)

Should I start a new high score list for ver. 1.0? This score list is...uhmm...sort of populated with v. 0.1 scores right now.

That's your call. However I figured you would just switch the scoreboard over to the new full version since v.0.1 was basically just a demo.

I was going to mention the site issue... I cannot access it at all. =/ Wouldn't you mind to drop me a pm if you find an alternate download source? I'll search myself too.

And I've been wondering: this full version is commercial or the game stayed freeware?

Yeah I can't access it either... perhaps spongdangly would be kind enough to upload temporarily for those impatient among us? That is, assuming it's still freeware.

And I've been wondering: this full version is commercial or the game stayed freeware?
Not sure, I'm wondering this myself. The sites been down for the past few days.

*Note* Do not edit the "save" file. I made the mistake of doing this (I was just adding a letter to my name for the hi score) and it became corrupted.

Fun fact. If you have the old version of PatriotDark (in other words, the version that this thread had a download link to), you can transfer the "save" file to the new version. It will transfer all of your scores, settings, ships unlocked, and Extra mode if you have unlocked it.

The first extend is now at 20 million pts, second extend is still at 45 million pts.

When you activate the auto-gain portal how do you make it give you gains? I know that I'm activating it right since it becomes a full circle but I can't seem to figure out how to get gains out of it (sometimes some gains come out, other times they don't).

I think it just spews out gains periodically. I'm not really sure if it's related to attacking or if it just spews them out periodically.

Also, DAMN, Extra mode got some real difficulty pumped in that mode. Even though it's now freakishly hard, I still enjoy playing Extra mode for the joy of cancelling suicide bullets which, not surprisingly, spew out even more gains!

Gain portals give you a gain every time a bullet passes through it after it's been activated. In the demo at least, they're pretty much useless.
btw thanks :)

I believe people are still trying to find out if it's freeware or not before any links get posted.
