The backing he had on the display was dope, but unfortunately didn't have any of that fabric. Those flea markets are amazing. To be honest, Berlin in general. Lucky to have a dear mate open her house to me for about 3 weeks. She told me I wasn't barred so hopefully can go back!MintyTheCat wrote: It is not bad for Fleamarkets Berlin is.

Personally, I like and dislike Berlin. The way the place is governed and managed is laughable. Finding anywhere to live here is nearly impossible now. Fortunately, I found a place to live but most people I know only ever have very temporary accommodation.GaijinPunch wrote:The backing he had on the display was dope, but unfortunately didn't have any of that fabric. Also, the 'Industry' here is a bit of a joke too: we can't all work in the Kebab/tattoo/piercing industry. Prices for food have gone right up since the pandemic. Berlin is not what it used to be.

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
Nice haul of NES/FC homebrews these past two months:
l'Abbaye des Morts is a NES remake of Locomalito's game that was designed to mimic the style of ZX Spectrum games. Great little title.
Jim Power: The Lost Dimension is another remake, or maybe a demake would be a better term here, since the original was made for the SNES. I think it's the weakest of the bunch here. It certainly looks nice, but the gameplay leaves something to be desired. The game has a charge shot, but you can't walk while charging it, but you can still jump and move during the jump, so you end bunnyhopping all over the place if you want to keep the charged shot always ready to go, which seems to be a requirement for dealing with a lot of situations.
Honō no Rangerman aka. Blazing Rangers is a really fun single-screen action game where you play as a fireman (or -girl) putting out fires and saving kids. It seems well-suited for scoreplay, it has a Flicky-like mechanic where you get more points per kid if you gather them all up first before heading to the exit, and returning them one by one gets you just the base score. But if you die while holding on to any kids, they are killed and the potential score lost completely. It looks and sounds awesome (and has an absolutely banging soundtrack and trailer) yet it was apparently developed with mapper0 restrictions. The way the fire can take over the whole screen without any flickering is really good.
F-Θ (F-Theta) is a top-down racer with some of the most impressive graphical effects the console has seen. There's 8 courses, and you race through either the first 4 or the last 4 depending the game mode, or use practice more to run any of them without other cars on the track. The cars are the real obstacles here, the courses can get really narrow and hitting the other drives brings your car to a halt, and the time limits are pretty strict. And after every race you're treated to an animation of the race queen, though the different game modes seem to have the same animations, except the practice mode which has none of them. The game has more T&A than the rest of the system's library combined. If and when I put up a video of it to Youtube, I might have to age-restrict it. Really glad I managed to grab this one, the game has gotten a few small print runs but they sell out fast, and none of the stores are gaijin-friendly.
And finally Gold Guardian Gun Girl. It's rather unique in that it's a roguelike for the console, and it's basically a twin-stick shooter while only using a single NES controller. You use the d-pad to move the character, B and A to turn, and your gun is firing automatically. There's even 8 different control layouts so one of them is bound to suit you, and soon you'll be zipping around enemies and taking them down. This would've been a really cool control option for some of the top-down shooters released back in the day.

Looks decent and pretty much a limited print-run. I see that we can get a trial ROM but anywhere to buy a full ROM from the creator?Ghegs wrote:And finally Gold Guardian Gun Girl. Certainly be a fun game to play on the go and I like that the dungeons are randomly generated.

Not that I've seen, unfortunately. FC homebrew devs seem to either give their games out totally free as a download or release it only physically in super limited quantities, in shops that categorically refuse to deliver outside Japan. And then there's Columbus Circle which has a whole set of different issues. Western NES homebrew scene is quite a few steps ahead in this regard.MintyTheCat wrote:Looks decent and pretty much a limited print-run. GGGG's dev has also released RC2Rally, another FC game that uses procedural generation, this one's a top-down racing game that can create thousands of courses, and it's completely free.

Yes, often they will not post outside of Japan and although it has improved a bit it's still often difficult to buy things in Japan.
They both look like decent games though and it is good to see people still willing to develop for the FC/NES.

It's a part of the year 1994 for me, when rock-listening world went into mourning after Curt Cobain's demise. Everybody seemed to know what was going on and suddenly, nobody did not know a thing anymore. The Stone Roses reunited around that time (not for long) and I think the year 1994 marks my proper introduction to Techno (substances accompanying it were still a couple of years before me; those were the Tool years).BIL wrote:Youthanasia's a stronger album than I was led to believe... I think it wears its grunge influence better than Countdown To Extinction's radio-thrash, and the title track is heavy as fuuuck.
As for Youthanasia, I recall its cover artwork stirred some shit, which was timely as a record sleeve as it used to be was no more apparent, so the artwork had to be particularly stiking. To work as a CD/cassette cover.
It is marvellous. Flea markets, yeah.GaijinPunch wrote:I got this dope ass cushion cover at the Turkish market in Berlin.

I managed to beat Skill Level 1, which is the first set of courses, and the amount of cheesecake is quite heavy indeed. Top heavy, if you get my drift.Ghegs wrote:F-Θ (F-Theta) is a top-down racer with some of the most impressive graphical effects the console has seen. Full video of Skill Level 1 here! And yeah, I did decide to age-restrict it, just to be on the safe side. Can't have those pixel boobs and butts corrupting our youth, now can we?

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
There seems to be a market research of sorts going on in the supermarket chain stores where I keep buying these. According to receipts they give me, each and every CD is filed under its title rather than, say, "cheap CD" (even though they all cost the same). And this collective buy of mine surely can be traced down as such, giving them something of buyer's profile in exchange (it can certainly be compared with selection present on shelf at the time of my making choice). And, of course, there are more "everyday" purchaces on the same receipt, so they can roughly estimate how much money to burn my kind of a buyer has. I never seem to can guess which kind of music, never mind particular titles, will be on shelf any given time, so I suppose they all keep making rounds between different stores. (There are vinyls available there as well.)
Looks like someone's way of having fun whilst proving that they do some job for the money they earn.

I know I'm repeating myself, but never enough of plugging this recording of Prince Igor:cj iwakura wrote:

It's all "DDD", so I don't know if any vinyl print of it is any good anymore. By far the most "cornerstone" recording of any opera piece in my history of exploring the music. Unless I am mistaken and Tchakarov with Sofia Festival Orchestra etc. recorded it more than once. I am taking the above detail from English Wikipedia.

The record store I got those at has a TON of classical music for $3, I always wind up getting something there. (Polovtsian, Satie, and Vivaldi were all that price)emphatic wrote:Get yourself an account at Discogs.com and get on the bargain bandwagon/crazy train.
Right now my white whale is a vinyl of Sweeney Todd's broadway production.
(And they have a Ghost Dog vinyl which'd be a guilty pleasure)

Well, I have been absent from this thread for 2 years but figured I should start posting again. I just been super busy, I stopped posting when my wife and I had our first baby (just turned 2 on the 19th). Also moved from Seattle to New Hampshire to be close to family with the kiddo. Anyway, I won't post my last 2 years' worth of pickups but will post what I got in the last 2 months or so. Not to much since the move and kiddo cost a lot! lol.

I just bought this off GoG, which also includes the finished MD and SNES remake ports. Jim Power was already a flawed game to begin with, but the no moving while firing thing is new to the NES version. The NES version makes some other major changes like having more power ups in boxes, dropping the timer, and a meter for gun power ups that reminds me of Blaster Master. The NES version is actually technically impressive, but there are so many changes, it almost feels like a completely different game.Ghegs wrote: Jim Power: The Lost Dimension is another remake, or maybe a demake would be a better term here, since the original was made for the SNES. edit: It seems Jim Power does stop moving while shooting in other versions but starts moving right after he fires if the input is held down.
