How do I put photos on this site, and sites like it??...

Post by dave4shmups »

I know how to use our digital camera to put photos on Ebay, but that's because I can move the photos from the HP folder on our PC to a separate folder I made that's named "Ebay Photos". And then Ebay just searches for the photos and I select the ones I want to put up.

But I have no idea how to put them directly on a thread on this site, or gametz.com, and it would really help with trades and sales. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Get a free image storing account with a site like Photobucket. That allows you to upload photos and images from your computer to your account with that website.

Next, you need to type this, obviously replacing 'URL GOES HERE' with a URL for the pic:

[img]URL%20GOES%20HERE[/img]

Note though, that with Photobucket and others, you can just copy the right line of [img] code from just below the pic and then ppaste it in here. In fact with Photobucket, just clicking on the code auto copies it!

Also, if you aren't copy and pasting, remember the URL must include the http:// bit...

Imageshack is a similar site, but you don't need to register. I'd expect a Photobucket account's better if you regularly put images up, but if you're like me (only put up an occasional pic and don't want to be arsed remembering another username/password) then it may be useful.

Imageshack keeps a cookie on your computer so as long as you don't specifically log out of Imageshack or delete all your cookies, it's easy to go back to imageshack and retrieve your previously uploaded photos. Lack of any sort of hierarchical organization is a bummer, but photobucket URLs end up being pretty long.

For our beloved Mr.Dave, I think imageshack would be a better recommendation, since after you upload your picture, imageshack will give you the exact text that you need to paste into this very forum, to display a nice little thumbnail that links to the larger picture. Upload, copy "thumbnail for forums (1)", and paste into your shmups forum message. Easy.

And if you don't plan to maintain your images, you don't need to register either. Just don't upload any porn and you'll be fine. I do wonder what would be in Dave's private stash though ;)

I've been using Flickr for the last couple of years - it's easily the most reliable and user-friendly hosting site I've found so far. Ties directly into your Yahoo account too, if you've already got one.

All sounds good - I don't actually know why I use Photobucket, but I only up load about one image a week and it's good for that rate of use...

I use Snap Fish, but the problem with providing the URL is that the other person has to log into Snap Fish. I do appreciate the help! :D

imageshack or Picoodle! both work well for me. Upload, copy the "hotlink" link it gives you, go to some thread here and post it...

I use photobucket, its simple as 1 2 3. In fact its so simple, its just 1 2.

create photo bucket account. Load up the pics the same way as ebay. It puts it in a gallery with the shortcuts linked underneath. Just copy the shortcut into a post here and your done.
