Which is the best Zelda of them all - rate your favourite!

Post by Skykid »

A tribute to the greatest series of them all. Personally, Majora's Mask pips the others by so slim a margin its barely visible. Most will probably think that I'm picking it to be argumentative because not many people 'get it' - which couldn't be further from the truth. Majora demanded time that not many people wanted to give it, because of its immediate bizareness. In reality, it's genius is so mis-understood I feel a private gratitude that I'm part of a few who did 'get it.'

I still feel to this day, that its system and game design are beyond anything that creatively, any other company has ever produced, and its so well crafted its humbling.

That said, this poll is not about my opinion - I'm interested to see what everybody else's favourite Zelda is (a sneaky suspicion from shmups fans would be Link to the Past, but we'll see!)

Whatever the reason, only rate your absolute favourite!

(P.S - Had to omit Oracle of Seasons/Ages and Four swords due to poll space constraints. I guessed these may not make it into the favourites - hope I didn't upset anyone.)

I was tempted to say Zelda III, but thinking about it, I put way more time into Link's Awakening DX, and enjoyed it all the more. Oracles/Seasons were great too though!

Graphically (and otherwise) I loved The Wind Waker, even if most people weren't too fussed on it. I just couldn't 'get' the N64 3D incarnations, which made it all the more surprising that I would take to Wind Waker.

I came to the series only around the time of Wind Waker/Minish Cap and never had time to catch up on the past classics, so I have no business voting. But during that time stretch, Twilight Princess has no peer. Little Link was too cute, though, in Minish Cap.

I'm with you on this one. Not only is it arguably the darkest Zelda story in the series, you also got to transform Link into various alter egos!!! Whether it was rolling around Clock Town as a mighty Goron or gliding over it as a Deku Shrub,it will always be the most memorable one for me. Just thinking about it makes me wanna blow the dust of my old N64

Link's Awakening still gets my vote; I've never really cared much for the modern Zeldas (Ocarina et al).

Where's Four Swords Adventures? I think it's the best Zelda to come out since the original just because it's so decidedly different.

I was just wondering about this game the other day because I would like a co-op game that I can play with my daughter (not too violent), and I was wondering if this is co-op as opposed to competitive. I will have to look into that.

The Legend of Zelda. Two quests, good level of challenge, doesn't hold your hand, very little annoying talking to people parts, groundbreaking, great music (underworld theme doesn't get enough love), funnest for speedrunning and special challenges.

Another vote for Majora's Mask. Horror and tragedy is a potent combination.
Also because it's awesome.
(Bonus for a time travel plot that doesn't fall all over itself, haha.)

I played Ocarina of Time hundreds of times when I was younger, so it's still my favorite. Majora's Mask and A Link to the Past are fun, too.

I am a very, very mild Zelda fan. I would never tattoo me a triforce on the forehead and I snicker at Zelda cosplay.
But I think they're very nice titles, although the SNES version is by far the one that enthralled me most. I even finished it three times, but just because.
First on SNES, then on GBA and then emulated on PSP because it ran so darn smoothly.

It is unthinkable now that I'd play a modern RPG three times. Last one I did finish more than once was FFVI when it came re-released on GBA. It's something we all need to meditate about :D

Hell yeah.
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

ALTTP is the only Zelda game I really played through, maybe three times when I was a kid on the SNES, then emulated once more, and then the GBA port two times. I really have a sentimental connection to this game.

EDIT: Didn´t read the thread before posting this, seems I am not alone with my love for this game :)

It's near-impossible for me to choose between A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening, I love them both with equal measure. Windwaker is my favourite of all the 3d Zelda's, so i'm going to vote for that as if I try to decide between ALttP & L'sA i'll be here all day :lol: although overall i'd rank the games in this order;

1. A Link to the Past
1. Link's Awakening
2. Windwaker
3. Legend of Zelda
4. Minish Cap
5. Ocarina of Time
6. Majora's Mask
7. Oracle of Ages/Seasons
8. Adventure of Link
9. Twilight Princess

I voted for the original. It was fun to find things with so many secrets that were actually hidden, plus it had the second quest, didn't hold your hand, and gave the players the most freedom to just play, explore, and have fun.

Besides that, Link to the Past is the only other Zelda I liked much.

The original is the only one that doesn't make me want to puke. The later installments may have had interesting innovations in gameplay, but half of them look like milking the franchise.

Ocarina of Time. Nothing can come even close.
The 2nd best is probably the original Game Boy Game, since it was simply one of the best games on the platform at that time.
A Link to the Past is good too, but lacks the epicness OoT has.
Twilight Princess is crap, it didn't feel like I was playing a new Zelda game at all.
Majora's mask was too short, and the whole time thing only made it frustrating. And the story was retarded.

Twilight Princess, followed by Link's Awakening

I'm not a major Zelda fan, and I never even finished one before TP. I just don't like not knowing where to go at all. Maybe that means I suck at Zelda, whatever. TP was the only Zelda game without this problem because of Midna. I never had to consult a walkthrough or ask anyone for help to get through it, which alleviated so much frustration. I also experienced TP on the Wii which I think made a big difference. The flying section I still remember vividly because of the controls, and gives me great hopes for Starfox Wii. Overall, just a really polished and well-made adventure game which is better than Ocarina in every area.

Link's Awakening I almost beat, but with a lot of help from a friend telling me where I had to go next and so forth. It had some of the best items and game design out of all Zelda games.

Heres another vote for LTTP for the SNES. As far as the 3D titles go I would give the nod to the underated Majoras Mask.
