ARGH!!!!!!

Post by mr_m0nks »

yep its finally happened.

came home from a short break to find the dreaded 3 lights of doom on my 360

at least the guy on the microsoft helpline was nice lets hope they sort it out quickly.

on a brighter note though i managed to pick up a copy of srikers 1945II for £3 in gloucester this week.

if you are ever in gloucester its worth checking out a shop called rGames on westgate street, they are probably the best retro games store i know,
good for megadrive, snes and ps1 in particular

I hope mine doesn't die.. I've purchased too many gamerpics and themes already. In fact I'm probably going to buy some gamerpics tonight, haha. D:

On the bright side, it's pretty much entirely stored on the HDD, which you don't have to send in. That said, don't send it in! Unless you want to receve one that's blank. It happened to someone I know.

Apparently Microsoft also wipe HDDs because "possible corrupted data" could cause the RRoD. Sounds like BS to me though.

That's not the case any longer. If you report a RROD to them, they specifically tell you not to send the HDD in with the console.

Before they officially acknowledged the shitness of the hardware, it was a different story - they made you jump through hoops when reporting a failure to them. I had my second PAL machine die on me last weekend, though, and there were no quibbles. What's the nature of the fault? Three red lights. Ah, okay, we'll email you the packing slip.

It took them a while to email me a UPS returns slip link that actually, worked, mind you.

Yeah, I live in Gloucester and rGames is pretty good for retro stuff. They had a Virtual Boy on display for a bit and an old Vectrex too. JPJ who frequents these forums also work at another game store a few doors up Westgate St. called Chips.

I wonder what the record is. Didn't some guy have 15 Xbox 360s die on him?
Strange that the shoddy hardware doesn't completely deter potential buyers.

i was in there too checking out dreamcast titles. didnt buy anything though

my gf is from gloucester and i lived in cirencester for a few years so i know gloucester quite well

gloucester has some cool shops, i cant think of another small town centre with such a good variety of independent retailers across a whole range of products

as far as the dodgy hardware is concerned, im guessing that the range of software makes up for it and as long as ms deal with it well and dont leave me too long without a console i will have no complaints

Well the "potential buyers" are already pretty much braindead, so it doesn't really change anything for them.

yeah the dude was living in a boiler room for a fucking coal powered air ship or some shit like that.

Really when you go though 15 Xboxs you really have to ask what the fuck some one is doing with them for them to be sent back that many times.

Funny how people will risk their hard earned money on a faulty console just to play the latest games with all of the "cool" kids.

I don't mean to sound like an ass though buddy. Sorry about your console. :?

MS at least admitted to the RROD being an issue and are providing replacements or repair.

Sony, on the other hand, likes to insult you for not appreciating the beauty of their construction, as evidenced by the PSP square button fiasco.

i dont think consoles having flawed construction is anything new.

my first computer was a commodore 64 for a christmas years ago and it didnt work, i didnt get a working one untill the third attempt.

my first gamegear and megadrive had to be exchanged within the first 6 months due to faults.

when i worked for comet (electrical retailers) we had dozens of N64s returned that simply wouldnt load games

i got through 3 orig ps2s over the space of 4 years.

and who doesnt want to play the latest "cool" games??

how can you say older games are better if you dont give the new ones a fighting chance?

i just love them all

Hmm... strange the kind of luck some people have. I've personally never had a console/computer fail for any reason other than my own ineptitude, with the exception of once blowing the fuse on a Dreamcast's controller ports. I don't currently own any of the current gen systems, though...
