If you remember the early 1980's when it came to portable LCD-based electronic games, Nintendo came out with their lineup of cool but expensive games like Game & Watch, Panorama, the tabletop "VFD" (vacuum florescent display type) electronic games, etc. Brings back a sense of nostaligia for the old retro video gamers that grew up back in the 1980's...
Plus the fact that the Game & Watch handhelds were made in Japan so that meant they were solidly built to last a long time granted that you took care of them with utmost care and respect...Bandai, Casio, Gakken, and others came out with their own LCD-based handheld game novelities as well. ^_~
Plus the fact that Bandai dabbled in exotic alternative power sources such as cool solar cells to power up their lineup of mini LCD handheld games like "Invaders of the Mummy's Tomb" circa 1983 -- pretty cool and high-tech LCD games released back in the early 1980's...
NCSX has a shipment of it's Vs. game of Donkey Kong Hockey Micro Vs. System handheld for a mere $55.90 USD...not a bad price considered how high some of these Nintendo LCD games fetch on the 2nd-hand market. ^_~

I remember seeing these units become available on Play-Asia recently as well. Funny coincidence.

I guess it's interesting from a historical or collector perspective, which is precisely why I don't care. :)

video games suck
I remember a boxing game like this. Nintendo should sell 2 super small joypads that can be clicked together so you can play in a similar fashion on your ds. but no! just buy two ds's!
I think that my idea would really work and the ds would blow up in Japan. More people would buy ds's.
Nintendo probably asumes that they will loose half of their sales, dumb twats!
I guess next they should make a handheld with 2 controlles locked on that are wireless and can be clicked off so you can play in a similar fashion. Would that rock or what? You could actually take it places like work school and play with friends. Well, now you can do that as well. Buy 2 ds's and bring that to work/school and become this centuries biggest DORK.
I should work for Nintendo or Sega or Capcom
I'd love to work on the technical desings and marketing.
Hey guys let's put all ourt monies in a pot and make the ultimate handheld system. It will have tate and the afformentioned detachable wireless contorollers. Nintendo will see it, love it and buy us out!
We'll be rich, dude

Insane...and I thought that the appearance of old Konami Nemesis LCD games on that site was amazing.
I don't think I'll get one of these, even if it would likely be a good investment...I don't think it'd entertain me enough to be worth it.
Now, if they find some VFD Space Hurricane units, that might be another story (one that would surely end in tears and disappointment, but I've always wanted to see one of those in person).

What kind of genre is that particular VFD Space Hurricane that you mention of? Sounds peculiar...is it a 3-D VFD type of game?
--------------------------
I do recall of going to my local Radio Shack back in 1984 and they were selling this kick-ass VFD tabletop game with built-in 3-D effects and a cool mini arcade joystick with a fire button to the side of it. The real cool catch was that it featured some impressive background landscapes that had a great sense of depth to them...this was years before Nintendo's Virtual Boy had even been concieved. Forget the name but I could tell that it was a Japanese designed VFD tabletop game but with a generic name slapped on it to sell for the USA market as it was back in those days...
Holy shit, I found it! -- turns out that it was a Japanese Gakken LSI produced VFD tabletop electronic game with the Radio Shack "Astro Thunder" moniker slapped on it and custom made exclusively for Radio Shack. This particular tabletop game had one of the most impressive usage of Vacuum Florescent Display graphical technology for it's time back in 1984...I've never seen that type of VFD graphics displayed as good as this unique Astro Thunder tabletop game since then. It's a shmup game that plays in the same viewpoint as Funai's 1983 Interstellar arcade laser-disc shmup game but with VFD graphics, of course...
Ever notice that the JPEGs show in the eBay auction show that Gakken used a Fresnel type of lenses display to make the VFD panel "bigger-than-life" look to it than it really is? Is typical of such Japanese manufactured VFD tabletop games back in the early 1980's:

You might remember Tomy's 3-D VFD games like Sky Attack, Turbo Racing and Planet Zeon game back in 1983-1984...they were priced at $44.99 USD when they first came out. The newest VFD tabletop games were mighty expensive back in those days... ^_~
Heck, even Tomy's Tron VFD tabletop electronic game was pretty impressive for it's time by cramming three different Tron games on just one VFD type of screen... ^_~
