Recommend me a Wii game for an 11 year old girl
Right now I'm doubting either Okami or a set of wiimote + nunchak
Others I might consider: bomberman, tetris, zelda, mario, rgb scart or component cable
What can you recommend me?
An 11 year old girl, will she be intrigued by Okami?
Is the game difficult to understand?
I could buy her a guide to guide her as well.
Will she be intrigued or will she question why she is not playing mario or zelda? It says 12+, but it's not too violent for a girl or is it?
I'd rather get her a real gem, that nobody will get her, but I wonder if it will hold her attention.
or how about wii fit? will that be fun?

Remember you're buying the game for her not for yourself. Think what she would like.
When I was that age, I didn't play anything but action games like Mega Man, Mario, Castlevania, Punch Out and the like. Straightforward stuff. Zelda and Okami should be totally no no. They're too complex. Unless, she happens to have finished games like those and know how to get around them. I never finished Zelda as a kid even with guides. I just remember it as one of those crappy games without ending.

I think out of the games you mentioned Mario or Tetris is probably the best bet. They're both fun games which can be easily picked up and enjoyed by anyone.D wrote:Right now I'm doubting either Okami or a set of wiimote + nunchak

I saw my roommate playing Okami and it looked really weird, he said iot was a lot like Zelda though, although honestly I could see either of them working also depending on what level of violence you're willing to expose her to.
Zack & Wiki.
It's colorful, playful, fantastically fun, and reminiscent of the graphic adventure games I used to play as a kid.
But with more motion controls.
Plus I think it's only $20 now.

You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.

11 yo != Mid teens.Stormwatch wrote:I loved Zelda on the SNES when I was in my mid-teens. Do you think the girl is a retard or something? Guys, you make me ashamed. What's wrong about giving a young gamer a modicum of challenge?!
Hey, UFO... If anything, Megaman (if I remember this right) is HARDER and MORE FRUSTRATING than Zelda.
You mean some frustration is worse than "where the hell do I go this game is boring"? Where I lived as a kid, everyone hated the "where the hell do I go" kind of games.

Well, the original Zelda was frustrating as hell, but the SNES one was a lot of fun; it gave you the general directions to follow, so you didn't really have to ask "where the hell do I go". Of course, "how the hell do I get there" was the whole point of the game.
Then again, the N64 Zeldas make me wonder: "how the hell do I get this camera right"...

I recommend buying her a game that's available on the Wii shop channel. When I was her age (and girly), I played Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Super Mario 64, Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Story, etcetera, and I loved them; each game had the right amount of difficulty for me.
Super Mario Galaxy might be a great choice; I haven't played very much of it.
Any game that allows a lot of exploration, is eye pleasing, and isn't very difficult is a good choice, I think.

Like I'm sure an 11 yo isn't gonna have any problems with the game.Stormwatch wrote:Well, the original Zelda was frustrating as hell, but the SNES one was a lot of fun; it gave you the general directions to follow, so you didn't really have to ask "where the hell do I go". Kids really do look at games a lot differently. Dragon Warrior scared the shit out of me as a kid because of the random battles and the battle music.
Zelda Twilight Princess might be a little much for a kid who doesn't have any experience with games. I remember the conditions to leave the first town in that game being a little unclear for me, I can't imagine the trouble a kid would have.

It's actually just "Etrian", thanks.trivial wrote:Look, the guy suggested he might get her Tetris. C'mon Stormwatch. He has to know her well enough, or our ideas have no relevance.
Etrianu, meet Atreyu. It's easy. You can fly! Away! A reading rainbow.

I wouldn't recommend Zack n Wiki actually - how many of you have played it? There's some punishing puzzles in that game which aren't gonna get figured out by an 11 y/o. If anything they will probably find the game frustrating.

I'd reccomend one of the new downloadable WiiWare titles - namely, Frontier games 'LostWinds'. It's a really charming action adventure game with a few simple puzzle elements - like a more linear version of Zelda. Anyways, the game controls wonderfully and the overall presentation is just sublime - the games a bit short, it took me 4 and a half hours to complete it with all the Idols, but it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish, and plus it's only like 15 bucks

Perhaps I'm mistaken then.. but I found the game more trial & error - then again that could be applied to every game, ever.nem wrote:I played it through. Don't get her the Wii Okami...apparently that port is pretty lousy.

PS.
Candy is supposed to work better for luring them in. Also, don't forget what Sidwell said: "The Path To A Woman's Heart Is Through Her Bedroom Window With A Choloroform-soaked Rag".
This thread just took a predictable twist
On topic, if she's a bright kid, then Zack and Wiki sounds fun. If not, everyone loves Super Mario Galaxy, which can get tricky, but I'm sure she'll have friends to help her with it (hey guys, remember friends?) I was 9 or 10 when I played through Zelda on the gameboy, and thanks to the help of a guy I was playing it through with, we both made it through. Teamwork!

LostWinds looks about right for a tween.Bootaaay wrote:I'd reccomend one of the new downloadable WiiWare titles - namely, Frontier games 'LostWinds'.
