What kind of screwdriver....

...Do I need to open a US snes? I want to take the tray out, but I lost the screwdriver I used to have.

Anyone know what they're called or where I can get one in the UK (Maplins maybe?)

You are probably going to find one on ebay. They sell specialty screwdrivers for just this occasion. You will probably find a seller in China that has one.

Take some old pens.
Warm them up. (Empty them first offcourse ! )
Stick them in the screwholes on top of the screws and wait a bit.
Then unscrew.
I used different screws when I closed it up so I could use a normal screwdriver.

Get a "Game Bit" screwdriver. I got a set off ebay for like $12 with not only the game bits, but about 20 other very handy star bits and oddball stuff that when you need them, not much else will do.

The poor man's game bit screw driver can be made by taking a flat head screwdriver that is wider than the screw head (but narrow enough to fit down the hole that the screw is in) and use a dremel or hack-saw to create a slot in the end of the flat part. The width of the slot should be the width of the inner notches on the top of the screw head. I've made them before and they work in a pinch. Much better to just spend the $ and buy the real screwdriver though.

I think you need the 4.5 mm gamebit for the SNES.

I got a set of 3.5mm and 4.5mm for $7 or so. Real handy to have around since you can open all sorts of things like N64 and PC-Engine and game cartridges too.

Words of the master - that did the trick in about 5 minutes flat. Talk about a quick fix, great stuff!

Now we get to play Mario Kart all night
