Thrustburst is finished

Post by ptoing »

Hello, some might remember me posting about this in July 2006, hehe.
Anyway, it's done now after long devpause.

Download here!

It's not really a shmup, but there is some shooting and it is of the hardcore variety of games, which I know many people here like.
If you run into problems regarding gameplay I suggest reading the readme first (it's short).

Cheers.

Graphics look Amiga-ish .. will give it a try.

Edit: Ok .. this is definitely one of the more uh .. interesting shmups I've played in awhile. Not my kind of thing, but I can see the draw for those who would like it.

Your ship is not even remotely controlled with precise stick movements .. instead you seem to be able to accelerate, decelerate and thrust. And you drop like a rock when you stop thrusting. It's a bit like Lunar Lander .. except with way more gravity. Your only weapon seems to be a laser that flashes on for about a half second. You also get some shield .. which doesn't protect you from enemies running into you, only bullets.

There are hardly any enemies and those that are there are pretty dinky, but your movement and firepower are so wacky that it's a challenge to fight them.

It has music but it's disabled by default for some reason (?!).

Just a heads up .. this is not even remotely "Just another Shmup".

I love this. Please make a "traditional" shmup using the same style. The controls instantly reminded me of Lunar Lander...

You do realize this would remove everything unique about it? o_O

I love it. One of the best games I've played all year. It works great with the xbox 360 pad.

This game could really use an online highscore board, for highest scores and fastest run to the core!

I quite like it. The controls are what makes it challenging. Good work.

This is fun.
Just one question: how deep is the cave?!
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

No kidding. I can rack up huge scores just by grazing a lot but I can't imagine that I am getting all that far. One screenshot shows a teeeeeny little gap that you'll have to navigate through, and I certainly haven't made it there yet.

Why nobody told me I can use analog stick to control it? It's much better that way.

How do you win? I made it to 50 KM, then the screen zoomed way out and my ship flew into a thing that looked like a sun. It then said "FAILURE"!?!?

Did I need energy? I had none.

OK, now I had a yellow bar almost full, and still got absorbed. What is this...

edit: you just need to have full energy. Cool ending.
