And this from the comments:
Another example of someone who doesn't play arcade games acting like he knows how to play arcade games, or knows about them. Arcades don't have fucking holographic cowboy simulators or virtual reality machines anymore, they have real games.Arcade games are made to last around 2-3 minutes/credit and people are not ready to plunk down 5$ for 10 minutes

That is correct, in the US we have redemption machines where you can win plush toys and trinkets.DEL wrote:Zebra Airforce wrote; In Japan they do, but the majority of arcades in the West don't have real games anymore, not since 1995 in fact.Arcades don't have fucking holographic cowboy simulators or virtual reality machines anymore, they have real games.
They have taken up the space once occupied by shmups and pinball machines.

Good riddance. That way the Japanese can stop having fun playing all those awesome games in public that we have been denied. *Bitter mode off.
(There's been about 6-7 years since I've been into a real arcade, so I'm entitled -_-)

Trek trough the Galaxy on silver wings and play football online.
wouldn't the death of arcades mean more console shmups?

i love it when people post about stuff and have no idea what they are talking about....
most of the comments in that story were people who casually played games when they were kids and have no idea what is up these days...
and none seemed to know what they were talking about in japan arcdes....they all spoke of north american arcades as if they were the standard and that if it sucked here japan would suck too....
'you pay money and the game kills you....its too hard....boo hoo'
go play some mario party loser.....lolz
or some next gen cgi cutscene walkthrough bullshit
modern gamers bother me....they all seem to feel if they lose at it, its cuz the game sux....

I want to buy a Japanese UFO catcher machine and fill it with my wife's and my own plush dolls, then we can reenact the whole UFO catcher experience at home and grab our own dolls over and over again. If everyone does this, then the rest of the 80% of Japanese arcades will close down.

Undamned is the leading English-speaking expert on the consolized UD-CPS2 because he's the one who made it.

I tried one of these back in 1994 (Dactyl Nightmare) and it was definitely an experience to remember.Stormwatch wrote:I'd gladly pay a buck or two to play on a virtual reality machine.
I'd love to try it again sometime albeit with the latest generation technology. Dactyl was a bit on the low poly side, but still convincing and ethereally creepy nonetheless.
Really? Back in the day it was the most popular arcade over here, and it was almost always crowded. The whole holographic thing would get the attention of anyone passing by.indstr wrote:I actually remember playing that as well, at Celebration Station about 16 years ago. Me and many other guys played together, sharing tips and such. The game is one huge memorizer, but I thought it was a lot of fun anyway. And clearing it in front of a crowd was priceless.
I'm actually surprised people here saying it's shit.
