Aren't CDs a bit tougher than LPs?

On the other hand, I'm reminded of the coach bouncing the disc with the other team's fight song off the floor...

Depends on what you do to them, and more importantly, how much money you shell out on a nice needle. It has been scientifically proven that it is easier to move a crowd with vinyl though, which is why the real DJs still use them.

What a weird and backwards idea. Curious what the results sound like.

Vinyl just has a “different” sound to it than digital sources like CDs and MP3s. Every record I own I have in MP3 form, but I prefer to listen to the vinyl forms if I'm at home. It just sounds richer across the board. MP3s are just convenient and fit in my pocket.

My housemates own a record label (noise, stoner, crusty doomy stuff), and they're basicly making all their money through releasing vinyl. It seems that a lot of people, like me, pirate everything they can get their hands on, and just buy records of the stuff they like. Which is awesome.

Hehe cool.
How can they scientifically prove that ?!?
They couldn't move me with all the vinyl in the world.
I find it very hard to believe that is a real scientific experiment.

I always thought DJs use vinyl cause it makes it easier to mix.
All errors are intentional but mistakes could have been made.

I'm sure they used a blue ribbon panel. And lots of white suits.

I don't think vinyl is specifically easier to mix than CD's, in fact, it can be harder in some cases. It's just that if you've grown accustomed to vinyl it just feels wrong to be using anything else (not to mention you probably have a huge stock of records). For the last couple years, however, I've been mixing vinyl and using Scratch Live, which I have to say is an absolutely fantastic product that works exactly as it should.

Not sure about the idea linked to, however -- sure, it looks cool, but I don't think I'd want to fuck up my expensive needles by running them across a CD. Also, small sized records suck. Give me a thick, heavy 12" plate any day.

My DJ friend also uses Serato Scratch Live and that's pretty much all he uses. His actual vinyl collection is not large enough to be doing stuff by itself.

what pisses me off is when you see a dj and all he has with him is a single cd deck and a laptop.

im sorry but i think there is a big difference between a real dj and someone who can sync up a couple of mp3's using a cracked copy of ableton live.

back to the thread though. lp/cd's seem pretty cool to me.

its a great belief of mine that vinyl will outlast the cd anyway.

Apparently the new CD hardware "feels" a lot like vinyl so that argument is gone. But this one still remains a truth:
what pisses me off is when you see a dj and all he has with him is a single cd deck and a laptop.
Call me old fashioned, but if a DJ is basically sitting there and just queuing records, he's not much of a DJ. A mix should take work. These digital DJs seem to miss that entirely.
