Any good UK Jamma Arcades outside of London?

Post by Dante »

Every Arcade that still has Jamma's, always seem's to have all the 'Time Crisis' games, House of the Deads 1-3' Virtua Cops' various sit down driving games (Value Limit, Fast and Furious, F Zero') and Tekken 1 and 2..

The best gem I saw recently was Planet Harriers down a seaside resort..

I hear Rhyl is supposed to have lots of old Jamma, went to Porthcawl the other day and the only Jamma they had was 'Vendetta'

Isn't there also supposed to be entirely Retro Arcades in some places down the country.. I know they don't like the printing of location of Arcades in magazine, due to the collecters clearing them out, is this getting a lost art?

Outside of London I've not seen any really good game arcades still intact for many years, and I used to live in Southport which was an awesome place for arcades. For shmups I've found zilcho good places but if you like beat-em-ups too then Jenny's arcade in Manchester is pretty good. They have a "SF3 : 3rd Strike" cab for a start as well as others. They do also have a couple MAME cabs which have some shooters installed but the hardware isn't up to running them at full rate :( .

Well there's only one decent Jamma Arcade in London as far as I know, and thats Casino.
If anyone knows of any others, I'd be interested!

Sadly true, I was on about a long time ago. Are you on about the Mavel Vs Capcom machine in one of the arcades down Neville Street? If it's the one I'm thinking off it also had a dud button on the P1 side last time I ragged it. I wouldn't be supprised if they never bothered fixing it.

In London there's a good arcade in the trocadero center. At least there was last time I was there. I seems to remember hearing something about that place getting bombed or something though. Dunno if the arcade survived or not.

For Dante,

If you were to step inside a Japanese "game center" (yeah, that's what the Japanese call their "arcades"), you'd be blown away by the awesome selection and wide variety of genres to choose from beside the usual shmup genre... ^_~

Of course, it helps to get a bunch of 100 yen coins to try some of them out... ^_~

The American arcades are a dying breed...ain't nothing like how it was back in the early 1980's with such new weekly releases of the newest and latest arcade games. The fine art of placing a quarter to indicate your turn in line was a common site on the newest arcade game cabinets aka "the fine art of jamming"...

Today's younger generation wouldn't know about the fine art of jamming as I've encountered some really rude teens in the mid 1990's asking if they could have my quarter since it was placed on top of the arcade marquee (meaning that I had dibs on the next gaming session at said game being played)...oh my, how times have changed since then. ^_~

I'm there already. Just put it in Quiggins or somewhere like that so we can eye up the student hotties whilst we play.

Hehe, dont think I'm quite ready to swap my cushty job for a change counter and string vest just yet :P . Funny how I associate those two things, I have memories from when I was a kid of all the arcade workers in Southport looking like Rab C Nesbitt. If you're ever serious about setting up an arcade though I'd probably be willing to invest however if you needed a boost to get started.

its something ive thought about. but I cant see it being possible for another three years. I doubt I would go to liverpool since the capitol of culture the tax rates are over inflated. Besides Iam having way too much fun making tee shirts.

Ha ha yeah there little difrence. its funny they put polo shirts on them now to cover up there modiesty. just dont go to pleasureland. there two cabinets sited there and one of them has ball tops
