Often overlooked: Geometry Wars, accessible in XBox's Project Gotham Racing 2. It's an arena shooter (and so a borderliner, according to some), but a very good one. Old-school with great controls and simple but pleasing graphics.

Um, no it isn't. It's an adventure/dating sim with space strat battles sorta like the PC game Homeworld. I've never heard anyone suggest it has shmup-like elements (because it doesn't, that's like saying Dodonpachi is an RPG). That said, it's quite a good game, one of the few Japanese-only xbox games I have enjoyed. :D

Why? The GCN version has less slowdown and an original mode with regular enemies. Isn't that reason enough to get the GCN one over the DC version?

Funny I don't think the GameCube has any shooters/Run&Gun that are GameCube-exclusive...

Ikaruga - Dreamcast
Star Soldier - PS2
Space Raiders - PS2
Shikigami no shiro II - DC, PS2, Xbox
Chaos Field - DC (not exactly the same, I guess)
Alien Hominid - PS2

For the GCN, I can recommend:
- Ikaruga
- Shikigami no Shiro 2

I also have a copy of Chaols Field Extended in the mail, will know if it's any good in a couple weeks.

Hey I'm from Belgium too.
WHich gc games do you have?Since you don't have a DC it really doesn't mather which versions you buy.Chaos field expanded is really great a true score shmup.
Star Soldier wil give you a sore thumb.I think the Xbox rev of SNS2 will have more options like the PS2 port (the NGC was the first port releasde and it's quite bareboned but you'll get a free plastic cat with it :d)
