There are no formal times, although 11am/12noon on Sat would be fine. Just an informal 'turn up when you can' type thing. On both days.

Nah - most of the press have had their mitts on it for a while now. They have it running through PCs and HRAP2's in Hammersmith at Capcom's HQ. I expect the reaction of dedicated fighter players to SFIV will get some coverage though.
back off topic they actually have a 2 screen arcade setup in their hq now (i played on it)

ok "capcom present arcade sf4 to public at gaming event" then go on to report selected mashers opinions. and talk about how nice the cab is even though it wont have official release outside of japan.

You're quite right - I'd utterly forgotten that! Time to get back over there!

Er...
Your allowed I reckon mate - your actually covering it as press, whihc will be great for future events. I think that's fair anyway - I was just blagging a press pass, which would have been a bit cheeky to say the least!
Don't worry, I've organised for my brother and a mate to come along and I'll be coughing up for my girlfriend's entry fee, even though she'll stand there all day complaining that she's bored, her feet hurt and we're all a bunch of sad geeks.:D
just hope the press doesnt read "Capcom present SF4 at gaming event" and then theres lots of information about the game and how good it looks.
I was thinking of the strapline: "SF4, the greatest fighting game event of the year...and some other joe's playing Tekken 5."

Ha ha, just kidding. Mas, I'm actually more than happy for you to give me suggestions about what you'd like to see covered, but I'm of the old-school - I'm there first and foremost to look at the underground UK arcade scene, SF4 is just a bonus on the side.

At one point, owning a computer meant you were automatically a nerd. Imagine if that were applied today...

Sci-fi fandom always had the stigma too, but I don't think that's changed much.

I said 'hello' to him the other night. Either I've developed powers of invisibility, or he was to shy to say hello back!

I've always considered it funny that as a gamer there's a connotation of being a nerd, while as a skateboarder there's a connotation of being really cool. In fact, most skaters I ride with are far more obsessive, socially inept, shy, skinny, cliquey and of the misfit ilk than any of the arcade crowd I know (minus our friend above!).

Really - they should put us in adverts for cars rather than skaters!

On topic - two days to go! Can't wait!

^Good points RGC & spadgy.

RGC - Yeah, sci fi fans also seem to get that stigma. Again I don't think its warranted, because I view sci fi and shoot'em ups as cool. Having said that, I did see one freakazoid walking across a Baltimore Mall parking lot in Spock's full 60s outfit  - the guy was actually living in that outfit!

spadgy - Skating & what I used to do (BMX ramp riding) are far more socially accepted, but what annoys me a bit is the fact that too many people in life try to pidgeonhole and label everyone they meet into: "He must be THAT type or THIS type."
He plays video games so I can pidgeonhole him as a nerd.
He plays American Football so I can label him a Jock.
I love to mess up these people and confuse the hell outta them.

ARC - I'll bring your Tatsujin 2 down on Saturday. I talked to The Old Mills the other day and he's not worried about the game at the moment.

i'm sorry but anyone signed up to a videogame forum has to be a bit of a geek  i do think it's a bit of an unfair stigma, though. you certainly wouldn't be called a geek if your passion was in collecting music or films, etc. at some trade events i'm quite used to seeing games journos trying perhaps too hard to convince anyone around them they're definitely *not* a geek, which is also pretty funny.

personally, i would be more offended if someone called me a chav, but there ya go :D

i've worked for a few retailers, and done some of the trade shows in london. went to E3 in 2005 and was sat in a departure lounge full of them :(

i agree with what i think DEL was alluding to though - the young kids into games who are on the internet 24/7 aren't doing the stereotype any favours with the way they act

anyways, have fun guys :) london's a bit far for me to travel... one of these days...

We'll go down there too. Masamune got it sorted a couple of days ago, apparently in a good cab(s?) and correct button setup. I've been working on the Casino Boss John Sturges to get SF4, KOF 98 Ultimate Match and Tekken 6. He asked me to email him with more details about them, which I did last week. I have yet to check back with him...

^I'm still not sold on that idea. I'm against this broad-stroke stereotyping. Everyone is different and pidgeonholing doesn't wash with me. Its the fact that people still sign up to this negative term....that...just....doesn't help rectify the stigma.
Of course I agree with your other points  .

first of all, define "geek". or "nerd".

Geek

1. An unfashionable or socially inept person.

(nothing about video games or forums there)

Nerd

A foolish or contemptible person who lacks social skills or is boringly studious.
-an intelligent or single-minded expert in a particular technical discipline or profession.

Another Ghetto setup on the pool table was achieved.
Thanks to spadgy for the supergun, Rupert H for the TV and Mulletgeezer for MUSH FUTARI.

Ibara was a mass extinction event for myself, every credit going the ST5 or ST6 distance then getting skanked. Losing a life every time during the medal rush on Stage 5, despite sitting in the middle of my red hadou line (positioning must have been off). Other lowlights included the usual Ibara death 350 points before the next extend, at least 4 credits ended that way.
No doubt I'll get a loop 2-4 distance today when no-one's around  .

Echoing the thanks to mulletgeezer, spadgy and rupert for supplying the parts for yesterday's setup :)

Nice to meet some more new faces, and to actually play a shooting game for the first time in months.

I'll be there today DEL! Just setting off.

Progear got a lot of attention yesterday. Here's what the board looked like at the end of day one:

Image

While I made an idiot of myself, Taylor and Jim showed me how you don't need a 1cc, and MulletGeezer Himself showed us all how it's really done, the git!

Other members present were Ravid, and elbarto; were you 'Jim' playing Progear?

And George Skykid (or is that Bruvva?)

I'm bad enough with names with my closest mates, but when it come to us all having two it scrambles my mind!

Really enjoyed hooking up with you guys again. A great turnout indeed. :D

This time I remember more real names and less forum ones. So, cheers to Will, Dan, DEL, Steve (from Bromley), Steven, Andrew, Nick, Rupert, Tom, Tom's brother, a cool guy from Northampton whose name escapes me, another friendly bloke who was good at Progear but whose name also escapes me (possibly Taylor or Jim?), and several other nice peeps (too many names. . .memory overload). Thanks also to Nick and Steve for showing me a local shop that sells (slightly overpriced) import games. Nice to know it's there, even if I didn't buy anything this time around.

After all that I still didn't get to play Mushi Futari! MG told me to help myself, but since the supergun was occupied I thought in the meantime I'd throw another credit in Mushihimesama. 15-20 mins later I turn around and Futari had been swapped out for Guwange! Still, at least I got to see it running (Futari, that is), and it looks incredible. I'll end up buying it, I know :D

And we'll be seeing you on the Progear hi-score table soon won't we RGC!?

Today was more modest, with Myself, DEL, Skykid, Taylor amd smraedis keeping the meet in full swing. A few Casino regulars like Craig showed up to.

Props to Taylor for getting his first Cave 1CC on Progear this afternoon, smraedis for getting 40 million in Mushi Original, and thanks to smraedis for giving me a proper lesson in Raiden Fighters Jet.

Great weekend everyone. See you next weekend at Battle Of Destiny!

I was a bit hesitant to go down because I’m a newbie to the forum, but I’m glad I did because I had a great time. Was my second time in London and I haven’t been in an arcade properly for a while so sorry if I came across as a bit ditsy in places, there was a lot going on in my head :)

In fact it inspired me to try and show more often, the culture is sweet and even Casino has a great atmosphere.

And Progear 1cc! I was trying way too hard before (as smraedis pointed out when I was being battered by mushi!), after I relaxed I aced it.

Glad you came down Taylor, the more the better!

I'm finally home now, it was another great weekend. It was awesome to see some new faces there, and to properly meet Bob, see Dan again, and of course play Mushi Futari. I only got to play it once, but it was enough to give me the fever.

But RGC rightly noted I need to stop spending money, so I'll take that advice and play through what I've already hoarded! :D

I'm loving the shmupmeets in London, I always learn something new. Will, I got my Mushi 1cc in the end - god knows how cos my brain felt fried, and I managed to lose 25 million points to, wait for it... a pixel of energy on the last boss. :x

Highlights of the meet were:

Finishing Chaos Heat
1ccing Mushihimesama for a crowd of two
Nearly killing the fourth stage boss on Progear only to be painfully denied
Losing 25 million to a pixel on the last Mushi boss
Playing Martial Masters in a god driven quest to kill the boss - and failing
Watching Del make it to Ibara last boss on a credit - insane.
Seeing Dan nearly finish Guwange, and put up a massive score chain
Not seeing Spadgy 1cc progear

Thanks all, and goodnight!

To be honest, if I had the spare cash I'd likely blow it on boards too. It was the minimalistic advice of a pauper. :)

In other news, there may have been a breakthrough in domestic negotiations over buying a cab. Unfortunately, it won't be until we move somewhere large enough to house it (outside of the living room). Watch this space...

How was the trocadero?
