I ran across this on a different forum:

http://plaza.rakuten.co.jp/soutahouse/diary

someone wrote:
Soutahouse's retailer blog confirms that Ketsui and DDP Daioujo will be hitting the Xbox360.

Cave shmups coming to X360? I am not skilled at japanese but I do see "Ketsui" in katakana.

Someone decipher that page.

Yes, that's correct. It's DDP DOJ Black Label and Ketsui are coming to 360, and both have an "X" suffix.

Might as well retitle this thread and start celebrating!

That is kind of surprising to me for some reason. I thought the ps3 would get more support because of the number of shmups that were on the ps2 but I guess the ps3 is harder to develop for versus the 360.

Wow... Ketsui  Now I wonder if their games will be released outside of Japan this time, considering the rather low domestic JP numbers for X360...

edit to add: And "retailer blog" implies disc-based releases not XBLA digital distribution

I'm praying for stateside release. That would be amazing.

Considering the Xbox 360 doesn't have any forced region lockout, I'm PRAYING that Cave will have mercy and release it as a region-free disc.

Hmm...it does seem that the 360 is inheriting the PS2's crown as "the shmup console" of its generation...aside from these, it's got the Raiden Fighters Collection, Shiki 3, Senko no Ronde (probably forgetting one or two others)...the other machines have next to nothing. Too bad it's not region-free like the PS3 is...

In any case, if this holds true, then it looks like the era of Cave ports has not ended after all. Now it just remains to be seen how well said ports turn out. :)

I heard that some XBOX360 games were region free, is that correct?

They leave it up to the publisher.

They can elect to have it locked to a specific region or region-free.

This is simply mind-boggling. Wonder what will happen to the price of Ketsui PCBs.

So do we assume that this is Arika's doing?

Apples and oranges perhaps, if rumors to date are to be believed, that indicated Cave titles in particular have been prohibitively expensive for western publishers to license...

I wonder what the Microsoft replacement policy is for japanese model 360s that Red Ring Of Death outside their homeland...

XBLA titles lack the disadvantage of needing a distributor other than microsoft to spend money on doing so, also lack of tangible media helps, hell the localization of THE even made a profit by now

How could you buy a Japanese 360 and know that it is a more recent model and so less likely to fail? They probably still have launch consoles on the shelves.

I don't think it's solely because the 360 is easier to develop for...it's just that a lot of people aren't buying ps3's in general. I believe that there is more opportunity for gain with the 360. That's what would probably be the deciding factor at the end of the day (based on the fact that both systems technically should be able to handle a perfect port).

What I'm curious about is distribution. Will these be downloads or hardcopies? In terms of localization, the may base the decision on how well games of a like genre (triggerheart, ikaruga) do stateside. While triggerheart isn't doing great saleswise...many have at least heard of Ikaruga and in a lot of cases, have played it. Even those who don't consider themselves shooting game fans like it in a lot of cases so this one is most likely to do better and could be the dealbreaker.

Bottom line is at the end of the day, it's all going to come down to $$$

None the less, I am happy this is likely to happen. I will buy them regardless of which system they're on. Hopefully, it could lead to other ports as well.

Compared to 360s in Japan? And yeah, this is worthless without a localization.

Great news. Hopefully a new port of Ibara with BOTH the original and Black Label versions can't be too far behind (hopefully with emulated slowdown)- as well as ESPGaluda II, Deathsmiles, and DDP Daifukkatsu.

Arika being involved wouldn't surprise me, since they've done at least one 360 game already (Tetris TGM Ace, which AQ Interactive published). ESPGaluda II and DDP Daifukkatsu look bound to happen later on.

Yup, they are still trying to sell through their first shipment, no lie.

This would be fantastic if it turns out to be true (especially if Arika is behind it) but you know what they say about things that appear to be too good.... Still, doesn't hurt to hope.

Can we bitch about filtering and resolution yet?

Well, if it is Arika (with Mihara spearheading), chances are that they'll at least offer a bunch of different display options to try to get as close to the original as they can (given the output of the hardware).

I wasn't really serious, just playing on some members' tendencies to bitch about things given extremely preliminary information. Doesn't really matter to me although I will be more interested in post-Ibara games.

For people that are worried about proper resolution, nothing -- a 360 release is useless.

Fact of the matter is they are both doing shitty there and often time, it seems the software sales for 360 titles are higher than PS3 which leads me to believe that a large number of the PS3 userbase is using it more for the home theater aspects (plus they get better downloadable content and games in Japan on ps3).

If thought about logically, it only make sense for them to localize it if they end up releasing them (again, assuming they want to make some $$$). Their money on these titles in Japan are from the game centers while their money in the west is on console. Again, it would be most logical but who says these companies are always logical.

Being a bit presumptuous, no? There's been two lines of text (total) released so far. Might want to wait a bit. The latter of the games listed isn't even out in the arcades for a couple of months.
