Graphic Artist Needed for DaiOuJou T-Shirt Image Cleanup

Post by rtw »

I scanned the back of this fantastic T-Shirt but since the
material is cloth I can't get rid of the texture.

Here is a sample of what I have:

Image

If someone could help me get this cleaned up, i.e. get
the background black, lift out the pattern etc... I would be most happy.
And of course I will put the image on WOA for you all to enjoy.

PM me if you can help!

to get rid of the grain, maybe this will work -

convert it to greyscale in photoshop and increase brightness and contrast

after that you could try this wesbite to convert it to vectors

I tried to do it with my gfx program, but its too intricate and time consuming.

Sorry. :(

Perhaps if the scan was considerably larger and better quality, it'd make the job easier.

I'm working with a very large version..

i'm almost there - i just need someone to erase the text and fill in the linework on the bee where the text was on a special greyscale version i've done..

anyone?

I'm graphist and I think that vector isn't the solution specially if you work with large version. Raster is the good way, i.e. pixel per pixel work.

i've got it vectored already - it's come out rather well - all I need is someone to go over the pixel version I have as I dont have the time to draw the detail back in where the words are.

Ok, I was typing that :
"Otherwise, explain me how you process, I'm interesting. With a vector process, clean the graph is complicated and not productive if a large picture is available."

two people have assisted greatly on this issue: pixelcorps & dmauro :D

dmauro did a cleanup and managed to get the background texture removed
but the image and text still contains a texture.

pixelcorps went the vectoring way, however the text is in the way causing
some interesting artifacts.

To get things perfect we have to edit out the text and then vectorize
the image. Then we can place a new text on top of the vectorized image.
If we need a new logo we can probably get it from the official Cave
Dai-Ou-Jou page.

This is NOT a mirrored image so no centre folding allowed.

Anyway here is the image where we need the text removed:

Please post eventual updates in this thread.

After a brief chat with pixelcorps I have changed the image
to the one that dmauro made and converted it to 256 colours.

If someone could totally remove the text, and retouch the linework
behind, we can use it and then totally replace any lettering.

Please post any updates in this thread to avoid confusion.

I tried but I could not see the original pattern...then when it came to coloring it...it was just too much for me. anyway...this is what I came up with.

if this isn't what you wanted, sorry.

BTW...I had to convert image type to jpg because imageshack wouldn't host the png file...it was too large.

Very nice effort, now all we need is to get the remains of the red out of
the image. I would like to have the PNG file :D Please check your PM
ROBOTRON. When I get the PNG file I will host it.

I've taken robotron’s version and had a little play, this one is high contrast white on black, with lines thickened up slightly. Hopefully it will be of some more use...

I will work with it some more when I return home. I don't have access to my gfx program here.

Did a quick vector test, had to reduce the size a bit but
all in all a good result. One thing that I noticed was that
we need to close the boundaries properly for the vectorizer
to work.

Ok...its all orange. Here is a jpg image for you to preview:

This is SteevTee's B & W reproduction turned back into orange color.

I will email the PNG image as soon as you let me know this one looks ok.

EDIT: Email sent.

It'd be great if you gave us all credit for helping you produce the image!

Of course you will all be credited :D

Now to the matter at hand. pixelcorps had a go at vectorizing the image
but it is still not cleaned up enough. In order for the vectorizer to work
properly we need all broken lines closed. This is particularly evident
if you look at the top of the right wing.

If someone wants to do this, pixelcorps says it's a small task
of adding the font back and the logo.

Please use ROBOTRON's image for further work:

Okay, different question: Why no vectorizing by hand? I could do that.

eight, our ultimate goal is to get the image vectorized. The quick and
dirty approach would be to do a rough bitmap updates and then
run it through an automatic vectorizer.

If you want to vectorize the entire image including the text
I would advise you to start on dmauro's image:

http://static.pici.se/pictures/sntOqHGWM.png

If you want the original raw scan PM me.

The jpeg is everything wrong with saving raster images today.

.png is like a compressed .bmp which is lossless. Jpeg images are really just a series of patterns chosen by clusters of pixels they represent. This leaves artifacts and little stray pixels.
