Ibara too big!

Post by spadgy »

Hello,

I've finally got my lovely Supergun and so I've rigged up my Ibara PCB, but one thing is bothering me.

A full screen of the game seems too big for my TV. So I can't see the bomb stock down the bottom of the screen and the score at the top.

-It's a UK old style back-projection/tube TV, that supports 60Hz
-The supergun is fine, and runs into my TV through SCART
-I have no other working PCBs, so I don't know if it's Ibara or the TV
-No way of resizing the image when I enter the test/service menus of the PCB
-Must admit a lot of stuff on my PAL and De-Bug PS3s do the same I think
-Cant adjust the screen ratio through the TV's munus

Any guesses?

Enter the tv' service mode and change the screen size. Before you does that write every default values on a paper. If you don't and you mess too much with the screen you can throw it away.

DO NOT CHANGES VALUES WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY DO, YOU CAN BLOW THE SCREEN.

Arcade games are not made to be played on tv and, as such, they won't fit the screen perfectly. Most games are playable though. It depends on the tv used and its default factory settings.

Cheers Beam,

I've been mighty careful with tinkering with defaults as they are basically a foreign language to me...

Hi Will

I have the same issue with my PCBs through scart. On Ibara you should be able to go into the test menu and adjust it a bit (left/right/up/down) so that you can see your score and part of the bottom bar, but you still loose some!

Bummer, but at leat you get a nice RGB picture :D

Spooky that you know my name. Did I message you or sign off a post with it thinking I was emailing? Or maybe you know me and I'm being dopey!

Exactly what I've done. I can see the bombs and lives, but no score. Good really, as there's no distraction.

I sent you a pm about some posters on the trade forum.

BTW did you get it sorted?

I had this problem with my consoles on my big ass Hitachi TV. I got a service manual for it, and it turned out I had to open it up and turn a few screws (with my life on the line). I got it sorted out and now all games have the correct ratio and position.

Get a service manual for your tv and see what it says.

Be careful. Shock hazard and all that.

JROK informed me that he has for sale a sort of sync cleaner circuit which supposedly brings sync levels closer to those required by regular televisions.... or something, perhaps I misunderstood the e-mail.

Does anyone know if this can relieve the problem of losing the score bar and bomb rack, or if it just fixes a rolling image?

Ibara is perfectly playable, I just never know how close I am to an extend until it's game over.

Sync is not the reason why Ibara/SH3 games are to large on superguns, thats a function of the lowres mode they use (higher than most). A sync cleaner sounds like it would take a game like Seibu 52hz game and transform it to play at 60hz. This would be most welcome from a video capture perspective.
