As a bit of a shmup fiend herself, she was really looking forward to trying Muchi Muchi Pork but she didn't get to play it in the end.
I was listening to you explaining ESP2's scoring system to your ladyfriend, and have to say I was pretty damn jealous about her enthusiasm. I get Charlie Brown's teacher's "wha wha wha" noise if I start talking games to my missus. Well, I certainly don't get as far as talking scoring mechanics, try as I might. :P

She's been playing shoot 'em ups longer than me (Zybex on the C64!) and can see ESP Ra.De. up to the level four boss on one credit -- she may not be as geeky about the genre as me, but the enthusiasm is most definitely there.

My girlfriend doesn't dig shmups either, but she likes the odd game - especially since I started picking up PCB's.
We beat the shit out of some punks on Crime Fighters 2 this morning before I went to work. :P

She thought the gay guys on stage three that attack by humping your leg were the funniest thing ever.

They actually hump something else :!: Which caused a famous screen punching/shattering experience in Casino when the game was released  .

Do tell Del, don't keep us hanging like that! What happened exactly (and without me turning the board back on to fight back to stg 3, what exactly do they hump - could'a sworn it was the leg?)

Do tell Del
Well I've told the story before, so I'll keep it short:- My mate KAC was playing it in front of a large crowd in the arcade. He got bum-rushed by the Blue Oyster Bar character and he simply couldn't take it (even simulated  ), so he put his fist through the screen  . Shards of glass everywhere etc...

I just got home because unlike Herr Schatten I actually DID miss my flight and had to sleep at the airport. Luckily we had enough beer for the night left. Great meet again. I probably forgot all your names and faces but i love you all.
Cheers.

-Plasmo

P.S. Wasn't able to make it to the troc on sunday...sorry Mills...would've loved to see you destroying strikers again. Next time for sure!

Probably because of that one last go on Mushi Ultra!

Managed to get your hands on a download of Recca yet?

Post by mrcatalyst »

Hello hello to you all,
Yes, I will get an arcade stick soon, thanks for the tip! haha

Anyone interested in some pics and/or vids of the sunday please ask through: msmith_1845@hotmail.com

I don't have the facility to edit them otherwise I'd make em all lovely and upload to youtube, so I hope someone wants to do something with em!

All the best, see you again before the summer. I enjoyed my day, very nice outing :) I wonder if George wants revenge on pool?

Lol! George can live with being beaten, as can I when someone is obviously better at 3rd strike!

It was nice to meet you Marty, I've sent you a PM with my email for some of your stuff (you got some great footage of Plasmo on Ultra Mushi if I remember correct.)

Thanks!

Just to add Mulletgeezer to the Progear roster - one of the finest Cave players I've seen: made it all look so easy! 8)

I did bring my girlfriend down from Cambridge, but she only hung about for around 20 mins - apparently London has too many clothes shops to possibly ignore.

Indeed, Mulletgeezer's ESP2 tips were invaluble to me. Pity I'm about to punish his hi-score. :D

I've since managed a somewhat higher score than the one I have on the HS table, I just haven't bothered to post it yet. Still, at the rate you're improving at that game you'll probably overtake me rather soon.

Thanks for the kind words, Skykid!

I'd certainly agree shmupmeets are are great way to improve scores, and you get to know far more faces on future visits to the arcade - I'd recommend them to anybody.

Any hints DEL, or am I going to have to watch the Feedback forum!?

^Bingo Mr Mulletgeezer - I bought Raiden DX, mainly for The Old Mills to play. That's what's going in.

If someone wants something else newer, like Futari/BL/Pork/Death Smiles - then go and buy it and PM me.

Thanks for the kind words, Skykid!
Totally deserved for someone who's worked as hard at being as good at shmups as you are mate!

I was impressed, and as I've been discussing with Icarus, it taught me a lot about playing Progear and shmups in general.

Great, let's try and get a summer meet done for August. It would be helpful if we could have casino on our side this time. We were told off by some guy for taking photos on Sunday.

Did he think we were going to plant a bomb?

That's unusual, you can generally get away with anything there. Don't worry, I've known everyone there for eons, we have the run of the place  .

An August Meet might be an idea  .

Update on board removal and installation. The Old Mills wants to play Tatsujin Oh (2), the Japanese version, which is waaay harder than the Euro one. In fact its quite sick. ARC has it, so I'll PM him. Raiden DX will go in as planned also.
So its old games until the next Meet, at which point new ones may well go in.

Yeah thats right. and ill be hopefully having a chat with Alan Rawlingson (trocadero manager) and Dave (technician) about replacing those old shumps titles and upgrading the joysticks and screens. when i asked him to sort out the streetfighter superturbo joysticks, he just replaced them with brand new joysticks no questions asked in less than 10mins. he seems to be the only staff technician who gives a damn about getting the machines up and running properly. ive got 4 days off work from wednesday 19th.

Wasn't there the issue that some of those cabs will not accept Sanwa or Seimitsu sticks?
