Cave sequels vs new IP
Cave sequels vs new IP
I was thinking last night whilst playing Progear that Cave have a TON of good IP in their back catalog but unlike every other manufacturer out there don't really do sequels so much (Donpachi aside).
So my question is would people rather see new Cave games like Ketsui, Ibara and Mushi. or would they like to see Esperade 2, Guwange 2 and Progear 2 (for the sake of argument)?

A sequel to Guwange or Progear (vert please!) would be amazing, but i like the fact that they rarely do sequels. To me Ibara is the most exciting shooter to be coming out in recent years.

I'd like new games, but it would be cool if they did what Raizing did and let you choose from ships from lots of different games. How I'd love to take the A-E from DDPDOJ on a trip through Espgaluda. Or how about side-view versions of the Esprade characters in Progear (ala Marion in Sengoku Blade)? It might not work with the balance of the game, but it's always a fun extra.
FULL LOCK is BOMB
I like that each game is something different. Cave has shown themselves to be very creative in coming up with new game systems and settings, which is why I think our community tends to have so much praise for their games.
As much as I would like sequels to some of their great stuff, I think they do more for us by making new stuff. However, an occasional sequel would be cool too. I expect even then they will have new gameplay mechanics that make them play differently then their predecessors. Sort of like DDPDOJ doesn't really feel the same as DDP.

I could care less about any Cave sequels until they finish having their pity-party and link up with another company to give us more home ports. Sequels are meaningless to me at this point, when console owners can't even play half the freakin' Cave games out there, aside from ESPgaluda and the DDP series.
I think 8 1/2 made a very good point. New games but let us have some unlockable classic fighters too.
Here's hoping now that they have a board of directors that one positive outcome will be the shareholders encouraging them to have more of a prescence to home consumers which would assumably lead to more console ports.
EDIT: Or the shareholders encouraging them to have a bigger home product prescence could just lead to card games, toys, ect.

One good thing about Cave's sequels are that they DO change the game appreciably (ESPGaluda replaced the original ESP attack with Kakusei, which is a major change that freshens the franchise and avoids Metal Slug Post-3 syndrome).
Cave needs to get over Arika and probably hook up with Taito, especially given their being on the Type-X list. Cave Shooting Collection anyone?
I don't want to see them going into card games, toys etc.- this would be a disgrace for one of the successors of Toaplan. What they need is to get their games out on the leading home console, which is PS2 for now.

Kinect? KIN NOT.
I'd prefer to see new games or theme-related sequels instead of just 'dodonguwange 3' for example.
I'd prefer even more to see them diversify a little, I'm getting weary of manics that feel similar.

I think I wasn't paying attention to gaming much when that happened. What caused the falling out between Arika and Cave?Dylan1CC wrote:Agreed. I'd fully support Taito putting out Cave collections, as long as Uo Poko gets a port. We need more drowning kitties!
Cave provided Arika with a special set of Ketsui roms that made the player ship invincible, allowing the player recording the superplay dvd to practice/study the game in order to perfect his skills. Because access to these roms gave the player an advantage over other players, it was agreed that he would keep it a secret and not submit any of his scores competitively. Unfortunately, it was just a loose verbal agreement and the player went on to submit a score to Arcadia anyways.alpha5099 wrote:I think I wasn't paying attention to gaming much when that happened. You can see why Cave might be upset at Arika for not keeping their player in check.
i would guess just ketsui wouldve come out, only because mushi and ibara are being ported from completely different hardware compared to the common hardware between doj, galuda, and ketsui.Agreed. back on topic, im fine with them just making new stuff. but if they were to do some sort of sequel, id want danguo-poko. maybe give the cat a bomb or some sort of special attack this time, since hed be the only ship. maybe 3 speed options, starting with spd 4, then uo-pokos normal speed, then a faster one.
and gotta have the disco beats.

Chaining through ESPgaluda? Awesomeness! Sometimes I try to chain through levels of other Cave games using an an imaginary chain bar. It's really stupid, but it's fun.8 1/2 wrote:I'd like new games, but it would be cool if they did what Raizing did and let you choose from ships from lots of different games.
