Here's hoping it turns out better than Metal Slug Advance. I am still needing a good Slug on the go since the GBA port of 1 is long canned.

Sounds more like a rumour...what in hell's name is a "mini-megaton"?
Famitsu term for news?
Anyway will be interesting to compare this with 07 Commando...

I'm looking forward to this, considering Metal Slug 6 wasn't too shabby.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Would much rather be able to play this using a good ol' arcade stick on a normal screen...but great news nonetheless.

Hell of a lot better than the series dying altogether....or even worse, Metal Slug 3D 2.

Self-reminder post.

Awesomeness hitting DS in the near future:

-Contra 4 (Wayforward)

-Bangaioh (Treasure)

-Extreme Space Invaders (Q)

-Majo Shin... Err, I mean Metal Slug, yes. Of course.

Sigh... I'm going to buy a slim PSP this month and besides Dracula there is nothing which comes even close to such a great lineup.

Well, it doesn't have a lifebar. That's somewhat promising.

Don't forget Ketsui DS! Though this may well not come out in the "near future"...

Gah.

Look up Shantae for GBC.

Nevermind, did it for you.
Keep in mind that this is an unreleased beta of a GBA remake of Shantae.

I was excited until I saw they're using the same graphics from 1995. This one will go in the try before you buy category. God bless my DS flash cart, no longer will devs rob me of my hard earned money with their half-assed sequels.

If the Metal Slug main series has to leave the arcades, I'd rather see it on a regular console, preferably PS2 (considering the backward compatibility with PS3). When the prequel runs on Atomiswave/Dreamcast hardware, going to DS is a step down.

A DS Slug should be called Metal Slug: 3rd Mission instead of MS7.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

I used to get excited, but after a while, I just got bored from not seeing much new. It can't cost that much to create all new sprites. Contra 4 will have all new sprites. The fact that they're still recycling 1995 sprites shows how little they care.

BTW does anyone know what happened to the original MS team? Hopefully they've been on suicide watch since MS4.

Nazca got absorbed by SNK after Slug 1, I highly doubt the original members are still there.

Unless someone wants to do some research and (hopefully not) prove me wrong.

Guess they prefer to sell a few copies too instead of just making the hardcore happy

Are the backgrounds pre-rendered?
Those platforms look pre-r to me. And pre rendering is always bad.

LOL, captain your joke detector is always off XD

But seriously... While I think Metal Slug is one of the greatest materpieces to ever grace the videogame world, I also am convinced that the series went downhill and became absolutely stale. And I don't trust SNK anymore because they don't really try to make the formula fresh again, they're just milking the cow.

Oldschooler doesn't equal conservative.

Not if it plays like Metal Slug. The "Mission" games were much heavier on the platforming and had more open-ended levels. If this doesn't have those, then it shouldn't carry the "Mission" tag.

How could you have ever been excited for an SNK game if recycled graphics is a deal-breaker for you? It's their modus operandi. It's like the sun rising in the east or the change of seasons... SNK will reuse art assets until the heat death of the universe.

And IMO they are damn fine art assets. I'll be happy to have recycled sprites as long as the gameplay is good enough to match.
