Hi guys, im new here. Been playing the crap out of this game and already broken 3 joypads in the process. I want to know if my high score means anything in this forum if i have been playing this game on an emulator and in easy mode? I just made a freak score of over 30 million in easy mode. I havent been able to beat the game in normal mode yet. My highest score in normal mode is around 11 million.

The standard here is to essentially always play with the defaults, so normal mode. Emulators are completely fine.

This is a horrible, unforgivable score, but I finally made it to stage 5, and I'm proud of it.

Only had a few credits, and just at the stage where while I don't really understand the scoring, I'm picking up some sence of it:

spadgy - 5,236,180 - 4 - JB the 5th

Playing on the JPN PCB, and going to stick with it as I love the feel of this game...

EDIT: Two more tries, and I did this (even though I died on level 2 twice I think):

spadgy - 6,927,010 - 4 - JB the 5th

It was updated in late August! It looks like some scores were missed; doesn't seem to be a pattern to it either. I'll add them to the database now.

I got INP (lagless 2.0) two ALL runs today. Man ALL this game is really hard to me, then I am happy with this:

Third_strike - 22,567,370 - ALL - Irori
http://rapidshare.com/files/424707452/1.rar
Bombed like crazy a did lots of shit in last stages. Lots of luck stuff in this run.

Third_strike - 19,840,140 - ALL - Irori
http://rapidshare.com/files/424708075/2.rar
Bombed like crazy a did lot of shit in all places. Lose 1up in stage 4. one more time pure luck in ALL.

I will try do something better latter in this week. This game is very strange the bullets seems come down in a jumping way. And the game slowdown like the hell.

Edit:
Third_strike - 25,361,620 - ALL - Irori

Stage 5 boss, died about 5 seconds in. I love scoring in this game :D
EDIT:

Huge improvement, made it to floating Garra. I considered recording, because everything up to the Stage 5 opening was amazing for me, but then I remembered that I always play about 10 times as bad while recording. Still, great work (and I found out where the hitbox is!)

Name score stage Character

clessx 4915610 Stage4 J-B

Been playing this game about 5 months (for score, had it for more than 3 years) , can not even constantly get to level 4 boss yet.

Excellent game , only something with character movement while dodging bullets feels not right and have lots of "cheap" deaths for some reason. Only Cave game I feel like this is Esprade

That may be because the hitbox isn't centered, and is below the character's head/neck.

Based on the pictures I've seen for the hitboxes of the characters in this game the exact spot is the back collar of the necks of each person. JD the Fifth's is most obvious with his green collar, while Yusuke's not-so-much.

Oh, and here's my rather measly 4.8 million score, furthest I've ever gotten so far on one credit:

I don't suppose anyone's got tips as to how to survive this cursed boss?

Also, what version of this is considered 'the standard'? I know Japan/USA/Europe Type 1 is Garegga's 'only way to play' but should I be using the International or Japan release of this?

I play the Japanese version , haven"t noticed of any differences , though.
Possible that only difference is in title/char select screen

I always try to use the Japanese roms , only for roms like Dodonpachi where Japanese roms refuses to save .hi files for some reason , I have to play the International rom

No progress btw. I wish I could see hitbox while slowing.

I got a new highscore!

In fact I died at the beginning of the boss at Stage 4, though I reckon I did superb for the first two stages and most of Houoh High School.

BPzeBanshee - 5,102,480 - Stage 4 - JD the Fifth

Image
INP file here. Note that I used Shmupmame v3.0b and the International ROM, default dipswitch settings if memory serves.
If I did any better I'd probably get a heart attack cause that was what was putting me off focus was my heart gushing and face going all hot focusing.

I'm gonna need to look at some superplays for Stage 4 to figure out how to get past it too, while I had an idea of what was happening in the first three stages I could see everything coming, then Stage 4 suddenly kicked the difficulty up like five notches (almost like Yagawa lol).
