So glad someone else posted a thread, the few times I could bare to be in the room when the wife's on a soap-a-thon (I'm avoiding Hollyoaks as I type) I've always found myself trying to work out what the random shmup is in the caff (I know it's spelled cafe but this is Eastenders!).

'fraid I can't help identify the new one but it someone round hear is bound to recognise it straigt away.

(waits with baited breath)

Might want to take a screenshot or two to help it along, I got a "Not available in your area"-message when trying to view it so maybe it's blocked outside the UK?
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

This is the best I can do from the link posted above:

Pretty sure I saw the Banpresto logo during the attract sequence in the background of an episode last week, if that helps.

I'd give it a shot, but the BBC says "Slag off, you're not from the area"

As expected

HAH! Thanks.

I was looking in to what that game was in his gaf. Spotted eventually it was Macross. Ian Beale must have some collection of PCB's. I bet he's got hoardes of Cave kits tucked away under the fryers in his chip shop.

Blimey, this is a trip down memory lane... Glad to see the cab is still there! I'm off to see if I can find a greasy spoon in NW2 with Muchi Muchi Pork! running in an Astro City. BRB.

There's a Turkish community members' club near where I live in East London, and when they have the door open you can see a Raiden Fighters cab. Not sure which one, but I think Jet.

Ha ha! It's probably what's really in that urn he's lugging about in the episode that my wife just watched. The one I didn't get distracted by at all! Honest.

East end necro-bump! I see a lot of Easteners as my wife watches it religiously. Tonight is the first time I've ever seen the arcade cab in Ian Beale's cafe switched off. Perhaps he's decommissioning it? If we see a Macross PCB pop up on the trading forum here, we know who the seller is!

Now, obviously Eastenders is a load of crap, but when you can't avoid seeing it, you have to make your own entertainment in it, and I go with making up stories about that Macross cab.

I've also noted, for example, that Jay is a rare regular player (as is Dexter). He always plays on the 2P side. Does he know some scoring trick? Obviously, it can't be that the actor knows nothing about cabs (and I'll be very embarrassed if I learn there is an advantage to playing with the 2P ship, and thus it turns out that a fictional character in a UK soap knows more about shmups than me).

I can confirm the board is still in good working order. Saw a playing gripping the stick with the Japanese grip method in Eastenders only last week.

And to confirm re the questions above about the shmup changing; it remains Super Dimension Fortress Macross.

And goatboy just sold one on this very forum. If Macross leaves Eastender this week, maybe he is Ian Beale (if you read this goat boy; Beale is a character in a UK TV soap opera, and apparently owns (and once replaced) a Macross PCB.).

Just bumping this because I turned on my TV last night, Eastenders was on and someone in the background was playing an arcade machine - couldn't ID it from the handful of glances but OF COURSE it's been spotted here before. Just didn't realise how long ago!

Yep that Macross arcade machine is still going in 2023 :D
