General youtube shmup thread.
Re: General youtube shmup thread.
Looks like an interesting game.
I noticed the star items seem to have a really wide collection radius, and the item values don't stack (which I think could be a nice way to increase the scoring potential of such a game). It does look kind of interesting though.

Extremely amazing!! Thanks for sharing! I'm take a rip of this for my visual pleasure...vvv wrote:Uploaded my 1.152兆 Crimzon Clover replay,

Thanks, I hope you enjoy it
RefRain ~prims memories~ , Extreme difficulty with Tee, all clear.
An old replay from 2011, I just had the chance to upload it now because of slow net back then.
The player counter-stopped scores on the previous version, then the game author patched it. So he tried again and made it, 10.4 billion.

Re: General youtube shmup thread.
I decided to start playing through some shmups as part of my Garbage Gameplay videos, which are basically me playing the game live and talking about whatever comes to mind. The idea is to give beginners an intro to the game, so a lot of you guys probably won't be interested, but if you want to see why shmupping and talking don't mix, here are a couple.

New touhou might be the worst windows game yet. It's not bland like TD, instead it's absolutely ridiculously gimmicky and barely functional. the difficulty of some patterns is absurd, but it's alright because X X X X X X.

at least the superplays for this game will be interesting.

Re: General youtube shmup thread.
I saw your blind Extra run and part of your clear before that when you were streaming it earlier. It seems kind of weird and funky with control rotation/flipping on some spellcards and that one where your character quadruples in size.chum wrote:New touhou might be the worst windows game yet. Seemed like you were having fun with it though. :p
Re: General youtube shmup thread.
Laughing at the ridiculousness of it all, but the novelty wears off, you know! Anyway, what makes or breaks it for me will be what the game is like at a higher level, and that is yet to be seen. Some of the gimmicks are still unforgivable, though!Icarus wrote: Seemed like you were having fun with it though. :p
Re: General youtube shmup thread.
I can imagine that the control-altering spellcards will get kind of bothersome the more you play it.chum wrote:Laughing at the ridiculousness of it all, but the novelty wears off, you know! Score system seems a little simpler though. Have you figured out how the bonus multiplier works? Seems like it has something to do with the amount of items collected at each PoC, but can't say for sure.
Re: General youtube shmup thread.
That's right, more items = higher multiplier, though it does cap at 2.0. This also affects which item you get, a good PoC means you get a life fragment rather than a bomb fragment. I'm pretty sure SakuyaB will definitely be scoring several billion points in this game in the hands of a strong player.
Re: General youtube shmup thread.
Yeah, seems like the system encourages risky play for more PoC bonus, though the amount of bomb fragments the game spits out at you might make it a little trivial.chum wrote:That's right, more items = higher multiplier, though it does cap at 2.0. Re: General youtube shmup thread.
The idea is to use as many bombs as possible on boss non cards to increase the point item value, so I think that in high level runs there will be as few stage bombs as possible. At least that's what I'm hoping!

Re: General youtube shmup thread.
game looks amazing. At least if you're trying to survive well so with a lot less bombs. Scoring probably sucks, but I'm just saying that due to how it worked in the demo.
Re: General youtube shmup thread.
I'm just watching Erhune playing as Sakuya-A, and her bomb looks somewhat broken, being that it has a double-wipe effect (first on use, delayed second on hit), and if you don't take a hit while the bubble is around you, once it dissipates it spits out three bomb fragments. You could potentially get one bomb back for every two used this way.chum wrote:The idea is to use as many bombs as possible on boss non cards to increase the point item value, so I think that in high level runs there will be as few stage bombs as possible. I might try this when I get back in from work tonight…

Score Soldier Winter Festival 2004 Counterstop
Compliments to Icarus why the game crashed, and I decided to avoid it just by staying at the corner in the last moment when I died many times.

Re: General youtube shmup thread.
Two Dodonpachi Saidaioujou - X360 Mode, Laser Type uploads:
1) 22.77bil to stage5 start
Best scoring run to the beginning of stage 5 presently, scoring 22.77bil, with no mistakes in execution up to this point. Stage 5 obviously didn't go well.
2) 42.65bil ALL
New personal best and the #3 score on the leaderboards at present. Two major mistakes in stage5 including an early hyper at the fifth midboss and an autobomb at the tank rush while holding a +9 hyper and a 61k chain. Another 6bil+ in this run potentially.

The scoring Formation Armed F is depressingly basic as with most early shmups, but it's fun nonetheless.

What's with the mistakes on the 1-5 boss? Seems very out of place with the rest of the run - were they intentional?Icarus wrote:Earlier on Twitter today, MON posted a link to this insane Dodonpachi Daioujou WL run on nico:

May I ask how did you record that? I have some stuff to upload but I'm not too happy about the quality of my recordings, all my videos end up at 240p on youtube.

Re: General youtube shmup thread.
Recorded the .INP using Shmupmame, then played the .INP back while recording a .AVI using Shmupmame (easier than simply recording a .AVI when playing as that lags my computer badly, whereas recording a .INP then recording it later doesn't interfere with gameplay).
Once I get the bigass .AVI (20+gb ._.) I compress it using VirtualDub. I don't compress the sound (Audio -> Direct Stream Copy) but for video I use an ffdshow codec (had to install it) set on 1 Pass Quantizer with Quantizer set at 12 to 16 (think that was recorded at 12). The most important thing was something colour_thief suggested: doing a 2x resize to the original resolution of the video (Video -> Filters -> Add -> Resize). If you upload an arcade game at the default resolution Youtube tends to fuck the colours up when you upload it and make it look really blurry. Upscaling the whole video by 2x with a crisp filter (filter mode I had set was Precise Bicubic) before uploading it seems to make a huge difference in preserving the video quality, which Youtube likes to murder for gaming vids. The rescaling by 2x is what forces the quality up to 480P and makes it look much nicer (just try changing that video from 480 to 240 and see how blurry it gets, ick).
After doing that I end up with a 3GB or so file that Youtube accepts and voila. Not sure what YT's file size limit is now, but I try to keep it around there just in case and to reduce bandwidth costs of uploading. Not too bad I think, considering I'm only using freeware tools/codecs.

Pretty detailed explanation there, thanks a lot Will experiment with that when I have some time.

Also encode as close to the formats prescribed by youtube which stops most of the fucking around it does...

Re: General youtube shmup thread.
I was dicking around on Twitch a few nights ago, putting together a few trial routes on Dodonpachi Saidaioujou - X360 Mode, Expert Type in-between Laser full-runs.
Stage 1 (v0.01), 1.48bil: http://www.twitch.tv/icarusfw/c/2806091
Stage 2 (v0.01), 3.38bil: http://www.twitch.tv/icarusfw/c/2806115
Stage 3, from midboss (v0.01): http://www.twitch.tv/icarusfw/c/2806135
These aren't going on YT as I'd prefer to record HD versions of them. EX needs some very heavy routing, but seems relatively doable given enough time. I probably won't do anything outside of routing the mode though, as I want to finish up Laser first.
