Is this going for a kind of macabre theme? Maybe it'll pull it off better than Karous did.

I wouldn't mind seeing a return to Guwange-style, both in graphical style and experimental gameplay.

I thought Karous' best point was "theme". Definitely wasn't graphics.

This should be pretty fun though, although I'm not sure how well a "dark" game is going to work in 2D w/ sprites. Doesn't that make shadowing kind of tough?

Cheers to the mods for the unlock.

You've never played a Castlevania before?. What about Guwange or Esprade? ;)

Castlevania yes, but it's not exactly the same game. ESPRade & Guwange... most of those games take place out side, many stages in somewhat light backgrounds. I'm thinking dark... along the lines of Karous... although I know it doesn't have to be.

No he's right. 3D invented shadows.

Say whatever you want about Cave, but presentation is rarely a problem for them...I don't think we have much to worry about on that front.

I don't think it ever has. Reaching back into the depths of my brain, I recall some creative quarrels over how dark the backgrounds were to be in parts of ESPRade.

snore...

Honestly, MMP was annouced and play-tested recently and now something new? It would be interesting to see what it´s all about but at the moment were are far from discussing that. Perhaps from my standpoint having only played home ports from Cave I just the interest just isn´t there as much.

This has been their pattern for a couple of years now. Since Mushihime-sama, basically.

Cave's current strategy to hype up their latest upcoming arcade shmup PCB title is working -- it gets the worldwide arcade shmup fans all salivating with glee & giddyness... ^_~

And does Cave realize that there is an international arcade market for their latest arcade PCBs? Best not to ignore that market base (outside of Japan) and would be in their best interest to release two versions: original JPN Bios version & the other, an all-English Bios version would make sense in today's international arcade PCB market scene..... ^_~

There's no point, they know we'll buy them in Japanese language anyway :D

True.

I showed DoDonPachi in school once, everyone didn't want to play it.

My "reason there are no arcades in the west" comment holds very true why "there are no Cave releases in the west". They don't make money. PCBs? They would sell more privately than to arcades.

Maybe that's why I feel this trend is a bit tiring.

To which I would reply, "what was the last bad arcade game Cave made"? Or the depressing side of the argument, when is the last time another company has made a really good one.

Apparently the questionairre card which I didn't check. That's what danmakugata reported. Tenshi is an angel. A juusha is a guardian of sorts. "Guardian Angel" is a pretty good translation I'd say.

Stage 3 in Guwange was at night, and it looked gorgeous. It is also my favourite part of the game, one of the most atmospheric stages in a shmup ever. And Garegga was the total fucking darkness ever. So this shouldn´t be a problem IMHO.

And somehow, I got a Guwange vibe from that flyer, too, but I have absolutely no idea why. Maybe they´ll do another "walking" shmup.

Define bad?
It's debatable of course given the track record seems to favour the positive side although to each their own. Even a well made game can be seen as bad, which is my case for Guwange. No fun factor found there, yet.

I'm feeling kind of apathetic at the moment anyway, making it hard to say what Cave games I really like, pardon Espgaluda. That goes in-hand with the 2nd part of your reply.
