Two Tone Dreamcast Mod! - Work in progress [Update 3/20]

Post by VeganZombie »

So I'm modding my dreamcast as you may have guessed from other topics. But this will serve as the project page until it is fully completed.

So far I've got a few pictures of the masking process after about 3 layers of white krylon paint.

Right Side + Modem
Right Side - Modem
Left Side
Front - Open
Front - Closed

I've still got to install the window but I'm waiting for a reply from one of the guys on DevCast before proceeding and possibly ruining the work I've done so far.

[Update 3/20]
I've completed the paint job!
Right Side
Back
Front - Lid Closed
Left Side
Front - Lid Open

All that's left is to touch up some mistakes and install the window.

I don't think it looks bad at all. Not amazing or anything, but it doesn't look "wank".

I had no idea what "wank" meant until it was put into the appropriate context. Thank you sir.

/no offense to the OP, I appreciate the effort put into it...

No offense taken. I just wanted to do something to it, seeing as I bought the DC pre-modded (IE: Hole cut into the top panel). I figured I'd try a paint job.

It still functions perfectly, so it's not like I wasted anything other than a few bucks on paint.

This actually looks appealing to me. I wound up with one of those black "Sega Sports" DC's, and it irks me to no end. Maybe I could paint over the logo? Possibly a decal? I don't know.

Bahahahahaha!

You know I never would have thought of that..

In reality, however, it's more of a tribute to 2 Tone music, and the suits associated with it. If you ever go to a ska show I guarantee you'll see at least one checkerboard pattern.

If someone offered me your dreamcast or a plain one I would take yours.

Really boils down to preference, As it stands now, between a plain Dreamcast and mine, I'd probably choose the plain one as well, based on the mistakes I made while painting, but after I fix those mistakes and throw in the window I'd gladly steal my Dreamcast from a dictator. Of Columbia.

Without weapons.

I'd cover the whole thing in that blue color if it was me.

Ah yes the famed RX-78, to be honest best dreamcast mod I ever saw was a DC circuit board fitted to a black sega saturn shell, sexy as hell.
