x-arcade can lick my balls

Post by Belmont »

My wife (bless her heart) thought it would be an awsome idea to suprise me on valentines day with a duel settup controle pannel for my arcade from x-arcade. I was completly blown away when she gave it to me totally excited that i would soon be able to finish my arcade that has been sitting in my living room half finished for months. So i get the stick and plug it in and imediatly try the built in track ball. I spin the ball with a quick flick of the wrist....and my mouse pointer moved........about half an inch before i hear something break loose from inside the case. Great so now i email x-arcade to see what THEY can do to fix it. Instead they email me back saying that "something just broke loose, simply open it up and put it back." GREAT! Thanks for your help x-arcade! I would have never guessed that SOMETHING BROKE OFF...IT BROKE OFF!!! IT BROKE THE FUCK OFF! FREAKIN GUENIUS! So i pop open the case and open the trackball compartment to find a bazillion parts just trown in there. I dont think they tightened a single screw in there .I look at the cluster fuck and eventually after an hour of tinkering get the thing back together and working.

Now that i have a working mouse i boot up mame to start playing some shmup action! But NOOOOOoooo... The controlls dont register.... So much for ready to play in mame "out of the box" I dig up my instruction manual and read it cover to cover in order to figure out what i need to do in order to get the big box of shit to work. When the manual gives me no clue except a 2 page diagram of how to PLUG IT IN i give up and search their website. They have a big faq page and even a few downloadable utilities in order to help me out. I thought i might be in luck but after another hour of tinkering with utility programs and other things the fact still stands that i cant get the thing to work at all and they shipped me a gigantic doorstop. So now im just venting and drinking beer wishing i didnt have a half finished arcade cabinet sitting in my living room. I wish i would have never started building my arcade and just taken my money bought a hori pro for my ps2 and a bunch of import games. I guess its harder then it sounds to build your own arcade.

Sorry about your grief bro. Get it off of your mind for a night, and try to approach it again when you feel less frustrated. If you feel that you absolutely can't get it to work, or that it is defective, then definitely push X-Arcade for a replacement or refund. Worst comes to worst, take the issue up with the BBB.
I got mad gigabytes.

I've never had a problem with mine, so I can't say how well it's honored.

Oh, and in order for the trackball to be recognized by Mame, you'll have to turn on mouse recognition.

Not sure about their entire arcade sticks, but the buttons and joysticks I bought from them for the cab me and a couple friends are fixing seemed to work great. Granted, we haven't actually used them yet, but they seemed high enough quality.

If you look carefully enough, the way a control board for a cab works is actually (most of the time) quite simple. The trackball, I can't comment on however.

Hope it all works out.

no offence but if youre gonna use x-arcade why bother? youve already discovered the lousy quality, next you (might) discover the worthless functionality.

youll have more fun running in circles with a dinnerplate while shouting "brrrrrrmmmmm".

i suggest a better stick like the hrap or the saturn astro city copy if youre hellbent on a setup like that, the PS3 hori stick even has a USB plug for instance.

you ever notice that customer service wise most game companies seem more out to screw you over than help you out if a problem shows up.

you know i take that back.... it's companies in general now.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Rarely mentioned problems with the X-arcade:

1. Sometimes it doesn't register that the stick has detached from a direction, ie. you push the stick up, return it to neutral, but it keeps outputting "up" even if you pull the stick down, until you try up again. I guess this has to do with the keyboard emulation and probably doesn't relate to all setups, but if you experience this even once, you loose confidence in the thing. What if it jams just when you're doing a record run in some manic shooter? I would probably break the controller in blind rage (or maybe it would break me, because it's "built like a tank!")

2. The two-player version is hell to play if it's not attached to a cabinet, because it keeps sliding when two gamers are KOF'ing each other senseless . It has these stupid annoying plastic "legs", not rubber that would prevent sliding. So you need to come up with something that keeps it still, in worst case a clam (I've seen this done, and it's not a pretty sight). Something's seriously wrong when you have to start modding the expensive controller the moment you unbox it.

P.S. To those who are thinking of getting an X-arcade: Buy a HRAP or two instead

Did you tried enter to menu in game? Hit TAB, enter to keys configuration and try to change keys using X-Arcade (otherwise you must use Enter from keyboard too). If still no signal then open window and throw X-Arcade longest as you can (remember unplug X-Arcade from PC first). Check now, should work.

Guys, remember -> don't buy X-Arcade.

A Hori Real Arcade Pro 1 & 2 works wonders for your PSX, PSone and PS2 consoles + Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 works just fine with PS3..... ^_~
