Post by DJ Incompetent »

This thread is old. I have run out of space for new content. It is no longer being used.

There is a new thread. It is updated. It is at http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=20959

DJ Incompetent wrote:You've been around awhile. One last question in-relating to this thread. Superplays. Playing at the level you do, would you only still seek or download them for mostly research purposes? Or would you seek them for the sake of personal entertainment on-occasion? Basically, do you still watch a superplay in-full or most of it just for the hell of it?
I watched the first few levels of the Guwange counterstop to confirm that I should try to milk the 3rd boss. I didn't like having to do that and I very rarely download replays for entertainment (the ones I've enjoyed are games I wouldn't play for score, but are expertly designed, like Ikaruga and Dodonpachi DOJ). I think most games are boring to watch regardless of how good the play is.
Thesis: Can a replay be created that is kept more for entertainment value than as a technical demo?

'Figured that whole "DJ" thing on the username could be put to use.

I think this would get a lot more attention if the file size wasn't so large.

Any chance of a reduced quality version DJI?

Yeah, low quality version would be nice. Really wanted to DL but it would have taken 7 hours and my PC is hardly anywhen up so long. BTW I think it would take about 7 hours for everyone because DL speed was limited by the server and not by my connection to about 30 kb/s...

Downloading at ~230 kb/sec. Should be done by tonight and I'll get to watching it tommorow.

Whether it's awesome, sucks but the music is good, or sucks altogether, thanks DJI for going through the trouble of actually making this.

Boasting newfound faith in the shmup forum with three front-page off-topic threads about music, he reopened the capture files once exiled to the recycle bin. It was then he declared the masterpiece be divided into thirty. It was on the 4th day the divisions were hand-delivered to the sites of streaming. Now unguarded from view, all with skepticisms, sins of Sloth, and dismal internets could view the presentations. The DJ knew this and it was good. AdigunPolack later had a heart attack."

Dunno, honestly. I thought I read once Filefront downloads hang around 30 days. Couldn't tell ya on the accuracy. I looked around a little bit and didn't see anything about a time limit. It was a bitch enough just to upload the thing on there. Big thanks goes out to the Neo-Geo forums for name-dropping filefront. Rapidshare is indeed made of ass and poo. If it comes to the feature presention disappearing, I'm sure a few requests would get me to upload again some other day...

I wish Super-play.co.uk would take my frikkin' upload....'stupid disk full error with 100 Megs in their ftp server...

Anyway,

Excellent DJI! Deltron 3030 was very fitting. Didn't know 50% of the tunes though.

Only probs were in the actual game. It's a bit boring to watch for 1 hour+, maybe a more manic game would suit the music better and keep an interest in the visuals.

What did you use to edit it?

Have to agree with freddiebamboo. A more interesting game could have been picked. Although I thought you mentioned that you were looking for a game that had the option to turn off the BGM right?

This do-hicky?
USB connection. Composite & S-Video (+ R/L Audio) inputs. Circuit City carries a wicked-cheap 'n common universal last-gen console hook-up a/v cable for $10. It happened to output composite and S-video at same time so that took care of the splitter-problem right-quick.

Included is Pinnacle Studio Quickstart 10. It got the job done thank god (My personal 5.5GB video version is beautiful), but the software is all glitchy as hell. 10 versions of this product and they still can't let me set the volume pan tabs where I want them. And some would just freeze and you couldn't move or delete them. Even some songs couldn't sync the right and left speaker channels until I cut up the song in Acid 4 and reloaded it. Much profanity was spewed from learning all that till I discovered the loopholes and workarounds. After all that, I studied super-play.co.uk to figure out how the crap full Gradius V videos could be shrunk to 500-600 megs. Ran into SimpleDivx and learned the 2-pass encoding & "cut your video size in half and count on the video player 2x magnify" ability. And that's about how I got up to speed on the nube replay encoding scene.

Pinnacle gives me a few more encoding output options, so I may bother the forum a little more with my results. Just for kicks.

Wish they did split screen ability. I'm sitting on a vid with controller inputs. :? :x

Appreciate all of you are goin' for it. 'Surprised not a lot of the Current Favorite Albumscrowd has chimed in here. This style still not the mob preference huh. Ah, 'least we got a niche here. I'm glad to provide. It sounds like I got the mood down per situation. I really wanted to make sure on that with the heavy-music people and see if it wasn't just only me who liked that sort of song pickings.

Yeah, you know of any? Just anything with an SFX volume slider and a BGM volume slider would do. What more interesting games would all of you like to see? Games of modes or submodes that haven't been done?

I wouldn't mind seeing you do the Arcade Mode of G-Darius. I was suitably impressed with your techniques against the bosses, especially the likes of Death Wings and Heavy Arms Shell. (The highest score I know of for the 30 Bosses Mode is over 60mil though. ^_-)

There was plenty of experimentation with playing only NO USE and other weak subweapons to determine just what limitations I could put on myself to generate appropriate challenge. It led to a lot of plays. When I settled with Repeller over multishot as the more difficult, it took 6 or 7 plays to get an idea on how to not get raped in the final Desert area and Crystal area (all volcanoes). The worst part was I completed the play twice on one take, but the avi corrupted the first time. SFX and avi output to two files that also desynced randomly. Workin' with the emu to output correctly & playing the converting game with hellspawn pal8 codec while Pinnacle editing with output desyncs from the emu bugs with stereo channel desyncs from vid editor bugs was the total nightmare. Hex editing sound channels took a few weeks too. That was a spirit-crushing process.

All that for like...7 public views ^_^
That's why it's good to put out content for only yourself. It's satisfying now and will only feel more impressive to you when you slowly forget every memorized tedious detail of the creation process.

Start to finish? Project was a month and a half

sharp vids man. i'm watching the red star ones for some uhh..tips.

you ever thought of doing 'official' remixes for whole games? you seem to have a knack for picking out tunes that fit with the situation.
