Hee hee, well, as you can tell from the different submissions I threw in, I play a bit of everything, depending on what I'm in the mood for. And yeah, this probably won't be the last time I submit. :) In the meantime, I challenge anyone with less pride than me to attempt to take my crown away on the Practice level!

Roll/extreme - 21,365,490 - 84 - keyboard - useless screenshot

I had to take a break after p70, too much adrenaline reaction. NOTHING can match this game's intensity. Your turn, Davey...

Hey, I'm new as of today to these boards and I figure no better way to start off a new forum account than to post a highscore.

You bastard. Well played, sir. :)

I must be breaking more chains than I realize, based on your score and level.

Coincidentally, I ordered a Hori Real Arcade Pro stick the other day, so hopefully that will give me an unfair advantage.

I hate pausing shmups, it usually screws up my in the zoneness.

It would be cool if I stopped thinking "Hey, I should write a game" and actually wrote a game, in which case your statement would (hopefully) no longer be valid. But I'm pretty lazy.

Heh, thanks. The real "secret," though, is that you have some control over the appearance of point items. In short, (1) the amount of point items that can exist on screen is limited, I think it's 120 or 128 for Extreme; (2) there are unclear rules that determine how many point items an enemy is worth, but they generally reward fast kills; so (3) you tend to score faster if you point-blank things and/or race to the top of the screen a lot.

Playing that way, it's possible, with enough luck, to get 3 million in 10 stages. The downside is that you tend to die more; but since you get an extend every 40 seconds or so, it can work. Also, it's really hard to exploit this on any mode other than Roll/Extreme.

I don't like it either, but this time I was just too nervous and distracted to keep playing. But it was a short break, 1-2 minutes.

New personal best for me.

4,630950-Normal-Roll-P47

Heh. I must be getting much better overall at shmups, because about a month ago I couldn't even rack up 2mil on either mode at practice difficulty.

Weird game. Don't understand the scoring. 1 game, 1 score ;)

Practice
13,851,460 - 131 - roll

Normal
7,975,680 - 51 - roll

Sorta like Dangun Feveron. The green stars raise the score you get for each star. Let one float to the top of the screen, and the counter resets to zero. Took me quite a while to get it too. I never fully understood it until I started reading stuff on this forum.

Probably why I didn't like it much. I don't like Feveron ;) You move so damned fast.

Well...You do slow down when you hold the secondary fire. Good enough for me. And unlike Feveron, you can still fire your primary weapon while charging/using your secondary.

Will someone tell me why I'm not getting notifications of posts to this thread? I was wondering why it was quiet after June 2006.

Thank you all for playing and submitting.

Updates to the high score table in 3.. 2.. 1.. play!

Hi pirate1019, I updated the score table. Good job! (thumbs up)

I notice you joined this board about 51 days ago but you now have 384 posts, which means about 7.5 posts a day.

Perhaps you could try Hard or Extreme? :D

BTW, I finally created a system to make it easy to update and reformat that score table using some offline Ruby, CSV, SQLite3, and rake. The current score table reflects the new format. The score table should be easier to update now.

I'll resist the urge for now. Hard and Extreme still wipe the floor with my face. I'll get there though.

Sorry I never get the level number. I wish the game recorded it.

Damnit. A hair away from the triple figure stages. ;_;

Lock - Normal
13,375,450 - Icarus - 98 - [Saturn-style USB pad]

And done on a 12in Powerbook no less.
What I'd give to be able to play this in true TATE.

EDIT: Linked to a clearer photo.

Lock Normal
4,808,630 - Pirate1019 - 44

Why do you have to be so damn good Icarus? I have trouble breaking 5mil on any difficulty or mode.

On another note...

04 893 970 - Blue
04,808,630 - Pirate1019

Man, this game gets crazy after a while.

Lock, Normal
7,574,910 - Galdur - 61 - [Logitech USB Controller]

I was riding my last life, a cycle of getting an extend and then dying again, for about the last 5 minutes. Really intense stuff.

LOL, I dunno. ¯\(º_o)/¯

I'm off my PC at the moment as I'm backing up all files ready to reformat both main drives, so the Mac is my primary gaming station right now. Since there isn't much available for Mac in terms of freeware (besides all of Kenta Cho's stuff), MAME, no Chorensha port, and Touhou stuff is Windows only, I've been messing on with Parsec47, and Noiz2sa in Endless Extreme.

Heh, and I just beat the forum's Lock - Hard Difficulty record on my second try. :P

Lock - Hard
9,548,950 - Icarus - 58 - [Saturn-style USB pad]

There's a pretty easy strategy for every situation once you get comfortable with the ship speed. I find Lock easier to handle, as I can fire and dodge stuff at the same time.

The only problem with Lock is that there is more shit flying around the screen. Try it out. Start a game of Roll Normal and if you sweep the screen horizontally then no bullets or very few will actually be shot. Now try it with Lock, there are more bullets then before being shot by the little guys.
I guess my biggest problem is that I seem to put the green stars as my number one priority over staying alive.

As an attempt to remind myself that it can always be worse...

Lock Hard
2,495,370 - Pirate1019 - ?

Oh, and congrats on taking over an entire table on your second try.

Your resident "first post" score board updater here. The score board is updated! huzzah! :D

(Stupid Internet Explorer 7 ate my post. Hate Hate Hate.)

I'm glad to hear that Lock is getting some love these days. I like Lock better than Roll, but then again I suck at Roll because it requires me to actually use that second button. Mad propz to all those on the Roll, as well as challengers to the Lock.

@Icarus:
Can't help you with the "true TATE" but have you tried increasing the "pixel density"? On Windows, you can specify window mode and then maximize that window. Can you verify this for me on the Mac? Oh yeah, and when you say Mac, is this Mac OS X on Intel or PowerPC? Does P47 work on OSX/Intel?

@Galdur:
Yeah, Parsec47 is frantic and thrilling. I think it shines at bringing out that kind of emotion. Of course, it can be brutal with the random bullet sequences.

Edit:
Announcement for "Last 6 months" score board.

As you may have seen, I have started a "Last 6 months" board in the same post below the "All time" scores. (I'm really tired of seeing my name in lights, heh.) Does this make any sense? Suggestions and comments please!

Have fun!

Obviously Kenta Cho created Parsec47 to play in a horizontal screen setting with bars along the sides, sort of like the yoko screen modes on Cave ports on the PS2. The game would probably look (and play) much better if there was an option to go full-screen vertical, however. Just a minor gripe.

As for my Mac, its a Powerbook G4 12in with Mac OS X (v10.3.9). The thing stays in fullscreen. I'd have to use Terminal (the command-line interface similar to the DOS Prompt) but I'm too lazy to figure out how to use it. ^_-

And I'd imagine the game would run on an Intel-based Apple Mac, since its the operating system that the game is written for, not the hardware.

On Windows, something like

Code: Select all

p47.exe -window
is enough to make it a window. Unfortunately I don't how to look inside a *.dmg file from Windows to confirm the command line opts for Mac.

Or maybe Alt-Enter (Cmd-Enter?) will do it interactively?

Thanks for the confirmation!
