Overall a pretty cool game, though I obviously haven't seen all of it yet. The closest "kin" I can think of for it are the Giga Wing games, because of the frequently-used "moment o' invincibility/score inflater" feature that they share in common: there are lots of bullets, but the aforementioned feature along with the small hitbox keep you from feeling too overwhelmed, and the extends are plenty easy to reach too. The one real gripe I have about it is the bomb "glitch"...I really wish they'd just included a C button, so you don't have to let go of everything to save yourself.

As I mentioned in my quick post on the strategy thread, the main thing I'm trying to figure out is how the "multiplier carryover" works...has anyone nailed down anything concrete on that?

I don't know that anyone has figured out exactly how much of a boost it gives the multiplier, but you've got it right. If you slash a small group of enemies then charge and slash a large group of enemies, the resulting multiplier will be higher than if you had not combo'd the smaller set even though the number of enemies hit will be the same.

Al138 - 193,727,000 - Stage 2 - HH - 35

I know, it's not great..but I wanted to throw my hat in to motivate myself a little.

Kiken -- Thanks for the explanation of the scoring in the Strategy Forum. It helped a great deal!

Heh, Rando doesn't come around here (or at least post) much these days...I think I scared him off. Though if he's figured anything concrete out I'm sure several others besides me would like to hear it...though honestly I have yet to test out one of the "theories" posted by someone else on the ST thread.

Haven't played the game in a whiiiiiile; fired it up a few days ago and:

Dial911 - 1,158,653,000 - Stage 5 - EHE - 64

Still haven't done a 1CC... always get the true last boss down to 1/4 health :(
What more can I say I wouldn't be here today if the old school didn't pave the way.

Damocles - 833,220,000 - Stage 4 - HHE

I didn't get down the multiplier because I originally wasn't going to bother submitting this score.

Anyway, I'm really digging this game. I'm not enjoying the bomb situation so much, but if it were any other way you could just blaze through the game. ...maybe if extends awarded a bomb...

I own this game for over one year now, but never had the time to play it.
Now finally I found the time to get into the game and played it quite often the last two weeks. WOW - what a great shooter! Definitely one of my favourite PS2 Shmups!

antares - 944,143,000 - Stage 4 - HHH - 63

...hope I reach Stage 5 soon :D

Just bought this game (Ibara was too expensive :(), I like it! Like Psyvariar except its not torture to play on a gamepad (try rolling for an hour or so on the Dualshock if you want to kill your hands like me)

Carmen - 418 544 000 - Stage 3 - EE - 53

Also, does anybody have a translation of the rankings screen, and what the end-of-stage bonus is decided on? Seems its not in the ST thread.

Yes I did! But I'm very unhappy with my low Loop2 score... I'm sure I'm not done with the game yet :?

So Yamazaki, will we be re-enacting our famous rivalry with this game now? If so I'm catching up...

Ha, but your score is already so high! I'm surprised then you haven't cleared it with a lower score... though I haven't seen Stage 4 yet so I shouldn't say anything...

Update

Carmen - 596,302,000 - Stage 3 - EEE - 55

I'm just coming to grips with Stage 3 and its stupid, stupid boss. But unfortunetly its pretty low scoring runs ... I really should try to find out how to get to the Hard path.

EDIT: Ok, I would not post so quickly normally, but it is DISGUSTING how many points are available in the opening sections of Stage 4. I mean, in less then a minute I was able to score more there, on my first visit there, then in ANY Stage 3 run I've done... whats up with that?

Carmen - 686 391 000 - Stage 4 - EEE - ?? (missed my multiplier because I was in SHOCK)

Stage 4 is where the game really starts. The screen gets cluttered with bullets and enemies real fast. You can either push your score something fierce or kill it if you use your slash at the wrong time. I can get upwards of 70 multiplier in the beginning but almost always wind up losing it trying to knock bullets away.

You better hurry up and beat him, or else I might do so before you!

Update:

Carmen - 835 409 000 - Stage 4 - EEH - 56

AcidKing, I totally see what you mean about Stage 4... its total bollocks! I'm surprised the system doesn't slow down (well, unless you Bomb...) I really wish there was a Stage selection option like Psyvariar 2 so one could get more knowledgable about the stages.

Also, could you do something about my clone near the bottom of the table?

Yeah, if there was a practice mode it would make things much easier. As such it takes much longer to develop a coherent strategy for the stage since have to do the first stages over and over or credit feed the fourth stage. Even then, you don't get to see the 5th stage unless you one credit past the fourth boss.

Table cleaned and updated.

Still nine digits :(

Carmen - 910,392,000 - Stage 4 - EEH - 55

I beat the midboss just today, without losing any lives (He's all talk and no bark!) After that the screen is ALL bullets! Ridiculous!!

EDIT: All bark and no bite, I meant

It's most definitely on now. After a few days of playing, I almost clipped my old high score. I lost my multiplier after the stg 4 mid boss trying to swat away bullets and that did it. Ended at 1.19, just shy of my previous record.
