Lindbergh Hardware-what is GeForce 7 hardware??...

Post by dave4shmups »

According to the November issue of Play Magazine, both the PS3 and Sega's Lindbergh system have this in common-which, according to the writer, is why the PS3 is the only console getting Virtua Fighter 5.

So, what exactly is GeForce 7 hardware, and does the PS3 indeed have it? Because, if so, that would mean a PS3-exclusive After Burner Climax port, since that was done on Lindbergh as well.

It's a graphics card. Nothing special.

No, it wouldn't mean that at all.

Hardware-wise, most of the features the GeForce7 is capable of the latest ATi Radeon cards are also capable of. In this modern wold of 3D, hardware specs are much of a muchness. For instance, Lindengergh uses Intel hardware, whereas the PS3 uses The Sony/IBM "Cell" processor, based loosely on PowerPC hardware. These main CPUs are about as far apart as two modern chips can get, so porting Lindenbergh titles to PS3 will still be quite difficult, but definitely doable thanks to the ludicrous speeds all these systems run at these days, and the way 3D engines in general are designed for portability.

Internal company politics are far more important when deciding which platform gets which game. Sega/Sammy and Sony are quite the chums now, with Sega releasing all of their latest fighting games since VF4 on Sony's home console hardware. For that reason alone, you will most likely see AfterBurner: Climax on PS3, if indeed it does ever hit the home arena.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me, as I really don't know much about Next-Gen gaming hardware, and how it all works. Although I will say that Afterburner Climax would be THE kiiler app for the PS3, and reason enough for me to get one. (After they drop in price, and all the bugs have been worked out of it, that is!)
