Seeking info on PC98 game, Metal Force

Post by Ranger X »

So a while back I was introduced to a wonderful program called HOOT, which is a hardware emulator that allows you to play back music files from x86k, PC88, and PC98 games. Well, while searching through the list of music, I found a game called Metal Force. I really enjoy its soundtrack it, so I'm curious as to what the game is like. I know it's a shmup, but that's about all I know. I'm also seeking information on the PC88 game Starship Rendezvous...I have no idea what it's about, but again, I love the soundtrack. And I'm pretty sure it's a shmup.

P.S. - This is my first post here...I figured this forum would be the best place to ask this question. But, I'll stick around, since I love shmups so much. :)

Welcome to the boards Ranger-X! I'm also a frequent user of HOOT, but hadn't heard of this game before, nice soundtrack indeed! Here's a picture of the titlescreen and another one in-game (on mouse over), along with some release notes: http://pc98game.wo.to/pc98/98data-yz/youentai.html

I'm sure you can find a rom image if you look around, these screenshots aren't very revealing.

PS. I like your avatar / nickname, Ranger X / EX Ranza is easily one of my absolute favourites! :) DS.

Thanks! I picked up the game (Ranger X) for five bucks at an EB Games three years ago, with case and manual. Easily the best video game purchase I've made since then. Now I just need one of those six-button sega arcade sticks for my genesis. :)

Anyway, I have been looking for the rom image, but no luck. I'm not even sure which emulator to use. Also, I don't know why, but my Metal Force OPNA sound file in hoot does strange things...you have to try a few times before all of the channels work. Stage 6 is my favorite. I play guitar, and occasionally do video game covers, so I might be doing that song soon.

P.S. - I did find some more screenshots.

(Mod edit - No ROM requests, read the forum rules, there are no exceptions to this)
