I don't have the issue if I hook it direct to the OSSC so it seems specific to routing the audio through the GSCART. One thing to note though, when I power off the Genesis, even on OSSC I can hear a faint squeal directly from the console, so it might be the GSCART is somehow amplifying the issue. I'm guessing it is just a sign that I need to re-cap my Genesis and nothing really to worry about outside of an annoyingly loud squeal when I shut it off.superg wrote:It's normal: audio filter capacitors discharge.Charlie97L wrote:Hey quick question!
I've had several systems plugged into a gscart with RGB, and I just added an Omega CMVS. Now it's squealing on power off.
I've been assured that it's normal and not an issue, but is there any way to correct it? If not, no big deal, just wanted to check.
Thanks!
The filter can be removed if you are able to solder.
Just thought I'd share, I thought previously I was the only one who experienced that, thanks for sharing your similar experience.

That's odd... does it make any diference if you take mono audio from the back or stereo from the front??superg wrote: The same effect on my Genesis 1, but mine is recapped.

I haven't tried mono, only stereo.naz wrote: That's odd... does it make any diference if you take mono audio from the back or stereo from the front??
Anyways it's Genesis making the sound when you turn it off and that sound is getting worse when it's passed to the switch.
Re: gscartsw / gscartsw_lite / gcompsw switches support thre
I get the squeal to. Doesn't bother me though since its normal. I did have a NEO GEO MV1T hooked up to it and i thought maybe I had damaged it some how because I forgot the audio on neo geos are preamped the first time I used it with the switch. I just use the stereo mod on my neo geo now and dont even get audio through the switch any more when using it. Any way, I get the squeal on my SNES/Genesis Model 1/CDXCharlie97L wrote:Hey quick question!

More units were shipped yesterday. I will be taking my primary work dayoff on Friday so that I can do more this weekend.

Got my stuff today, and when I set it down on the table like this, I knew I made the right choice in buying it.

Guess I should actually hook it up to something now...

Cannot wait to get mine. I have bad luck with what I call "snafus" where somehow my order falls through the cracks and it becomes a mystery. Crossing my fingers I don't have that happen here!
Re: gscartsw / gscartsw_lite / gcompsw switches support thre
Soldered more units yesterday night, still have to test and assemble the cases before shipping.
I plan to assemble on Friday / Saturday and pack on Sunday so next drop off will happen on Monday.

Hey guys, quick question. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious.
I have 6 devices plugged into my v3.4 and they all work great. I recently (finally) picked up an NES and just grabbed a Composite to SCART cable from Amazon to hold me over till I do the RGB mod. The cable works going straight into my SCART-to-HDMI converter, but it doesn't work through the gscartsw. Any ideas? Does it need to be an RGB scart signal to work or something like that? I've tried toggling the csync switch and the hv switch as well and that didn't change anything.
Thanks!
Ryan

More information. The gscartsw does auto-switch to the NES, I can hear the audio from the game -- just no video.

Got mine today. The gcompsw appears to be flawless. The gscartsw lite, the sync regeneration could use some work: during my testing, several times the sync got wonky. Once, a Wii -> GARO -> gscartsw lite -> OSSC got a strange animated distortion almost like a sine wave through the image. Any time the sync regeneration had a problem, switching it off and on again would resolve it. Unfortunately, I could not reproduce any of this, it was always a random one-off that I couldn't get to happen again, but I'd say around three times I saw an issue like this during my initial testing.

Might be a WII specific thing.Guspaz wrote:Got mine today. The gcompsw appears to be flawless. Why WII->GARO? Couldn't you just use WII->SCART?
Re: gscartsw / gscartsw_lite / gcompsw switches support thre
NTSC Wii: it does not support RGB (unless region modded, I think?) and so can't be used with SCART. The actual plan was that the output of the gcompsw would connect to the GARO and from that to the gscartsw-lite.
I can't remember what other devices I was on when the other issues occured. It may be a GARO issue. I'm having some trouble with it (the GARO), actually, so it's sidelined at the moment.

Somebody said that it can be PAL softmodded easily and that will output RGBS.Guspaz wrote:NTSC Wii: it does not support RGB (unless region modded, I think?) and so can't be used with SCART. Re: gscartsw / gscartsw_lite / gcompsw switches support thre
Component is still an approximation of the colorspace but rgb scart is as exact of a representation of the colors as possible via an analogue signal. If you can tell the difference or not though may be a placebo effect kinda thing or only matter for certain people with extremely perceptive vision. I think the real "main" reason to pick scart in the case of the wii would be to work with your existing setup.Ward1986 wrote:Why not just use component?superg wrote:Somebody said that it can be PAL softmodded easily and that will output RGBS.Guspaz wrote:NTSC Wii: it does not support RGB (unless region modded, I think?) and so can't be used with SCART. Personally as I also have a psp and xbox having my wii use component video was much simpler than region changing my wii (which can brick your wii if done incorrectly) via a hack once you jailbreak your system. Scart is only disabled via software so no hardware modding is required once the system has the correct region settings.
Also depending on your setup it may be best to just us a wii2hdmi as they add 0 latency. From button press to action on a crt is 50ms and the same is true via a wii2hdmi on a decent lcd. As the Wii uses motion tracking and doesn't have any lightgun games I can't think of any reason this would be a problem.

I've been soldering the whole time, I will be assembling the cases tomorrow and the next shipment will go on Monday.

Will the PS2 sync on green scart cable actually remove the sync pulses from the green line, or does it simply make them accessible as separate sync?

Do we get an email when our orders are shipped from PayPal?
I can't find any way to track it.
Re: gscartsw / gscartsw_lite / gcompsw switches support thre
Yeah Superg mentioned some posts back that we would get a tracking number from Paypal when our order ships. I'm able to review my order history, and it shows I placed my order on May 3rd.mjs0686 wrote: Do we get an email when our orders are shipped from PayPal?

Been doing alot of research into the whole RGB scene, and getting my head around all the variations of sync.
I gather that CSYNC is the best, and purchased all my RGB Scart cables from retrogamingcables.co.uk. I just want to check that this is compatible with the gscartsw_lite?
All my consoles are PAL btw if that's relevant.

Re: gscartsw / gscartsw_lite / gcompsw switches support thre
I believe PAL format doesn't have csync by default, but your cables from retrogamingcables have a built-in sync separator circuit that likely uses the Luma signal for sync (or possibly just the composite video line). At any rate, they should work fine routed through the gscartsw_lite.Ward1986 wrote:Been doing alot of research into the whole RGB scene, and getting my head around all the variations of sync.

If you're talking about my new development, then yes, it will remove sync pulses from a Green line.take2FiveGuys wrote:Will the PS2 sync on green scart cable actually remove the sync pulses from the green line, or does it simply make them accessible as separate sync?
Yes, when I ship with paypal it usually sends an email that your order is shipped and tracking is there. Occasionally the email doesn't come but you can login to paypal and check the transaction status, it'll show as shipped and there is a tracking as well.mjs0686 wrote: Do we get an email when our orders are shipped from PayPal?

Csync cables have to be properly 75ohm loaded, not TTL. Cable manufacturer usually puts a resistor there as far as I know. TTL sync without load damages v3.4 switch sync multiplexer.Ward1986 wrote:Been doing alot of research into the whole RGB scene, and getting my head around all the variations of sync.

I'd advice against cables with builtin sync stripper, it adds lag and the same functionality is implemented in gscartsw_lite (with much less latency). If there is native csync output it's fine (given that it's correctly loaded), if not - go with cvbs.FBX wrote: I believe PAL format doesn't have csync by default, but your cables from retrogamingcables have a built-in sync separator circuit that likely uses the Luma signal for sync (or possibly just the composite video line). If so I would be curious to know whether it's WII signal specifics or rather GARO issue.
Everybody sorry for the late replies, I'm assembling the cases.
