Things you need to fill a sudden urge for verticalness: Mini projector, tripod head, clamp, suitable wall =)

extra credit for sticking to floppy disk in this day and age. Tilt the screen back more and bring it to the front then you are 5 steps closer to cab spec.

Re: Show your Tate setup thats not a cab or arcade machine

I don't have a tate-able CRT TV (and I don't fuck with LCD) sadly so only the MAME box gets it, sad because I normally mostly play on real hardware. Someday I'll get a nice big B/PVM. The janky-ass Hori EX2 is on it's way out, to be replaced with a hrap VX SE Kai

I have a question. If you use MAME with tate screen than what resolution and setting do you people use ?:) I mean so it's not stretched or something

Custom line doubled resolution?siemien wrote:I have a question. If you use MAME with tate screen than what resolution and setting do you people use ?:) I mean so it's not stretched or something
Run mame> Get native resolution info>Create custom resolution in drivers>Set scaling to display>set that resolution when playing?
Also: Cab related but must show anyway, https://youtu.be/FCVI8bxy9yg?t=838 Anyone interested in a Blast City without a working TV? hah
Just saw this earlier, 450$ with Bass Fishing. Shame the TV doesn't work.

What model is the Sony? Exterior looks just like the PVM-2030 that I sold 2 weeks ago

Thanks FB - it's just my PGM2950QM. I was looking for a 15KHz monitor to match it - and you just sold one, damnFinalBaton wrote:^^^^^^^^^

I'm new to this whole tate-ing deal. Does this work best with a 16:9 monitor? Were the 1990's arcade schmups designed to run on a tilted widescreen display?

No, but a 4:3 monitor looks taller than you might think if you rotate it. That shot from J-P s a 4:3 monitor, for example.

That certainly makes more sense. 4:3 monitors look square-ish the right way up to me, that's a bloody optical illusion! This must be the secret power of the Tate.Guspaz wrote:No, but a 4:3 monitor looks taller than you might think if you rotate it. That shot from J-P s a 4:3 monitor, for example.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've actually rotated a screen for TATE, but just had to do this once while I was reorganizing somethings.
Geometry is especially wonky like this, and the presumed purity issue the monitor has is further intensified like this, but it was still fun to do.

Re: Show your Tate setup thats not a cab or arcade machine
The other thing that I find is that screen real estate goes a touch further, perception-wise, with a tated display. If I had say a 14" and a 20" and had equal usage expected for both orientations, I would absolutely tate the 14" rather than the 20". There may be a science to it as far as how our eyes work, I don't know - but regardless, it's my take away.MmBuddha wrote:That certainly makes more sense. 4:3 monitors look square-ish the right way up to me, that's a bloody optical illusion! I currently have a 24 inch Aiwa I found in the trash back in September. It has worked well enough but I actually think it is too big for the distance I play at. If I can find a smaller one I will grab it.
Show me everything you have, puppet of Geppetto.
