Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Being bored out of my mind and alone in this shitty town, but that is just a cheap excuse; my attitude is what has been annoying me. It feels terrible to be up and down. I spent all day Friday in a nyquil coma because I was afraid of hurting myself. I woke up on Saturday to my parents leaving town and I tried to sneak to the restroom to avoid any communication with them which failed. Then spent all day Sunday in bed until 8pm when I woke up sweaty and had the urge to cut myself for the first time in several months. Simply put: I am fucked up.
I wish there was a therapist in town, or at least one that gave a fuck.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I can only suggest spending a little more time helping out others (volunteer?). It's better than therapy

Hang is there is all I can say really, small towns in the middle of nowhere really suck
(Seven months until I can leave here...)

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
You could take a page out of my book. Just sit at the computer and play shmups all day.

Do you have a local animal shelter in town? Look into volunteering if you do. You'd be surprised how cathartic it can be to simply walk a homeless dog or to help socialize a scared cat after dealing with morons all day.mesh control wrote:Being bored out of my mind and alone in this shitty town, but that is just a cheap excuse; my attitude is what has been annoying me. volunteering can be very therapeutic. the difficult part is mustering up the strength to crawl out of bed, put on your clothes. you seriously need a way to distract yourself and find someone to talk to. yea, finding a therapist that actually gives a shit about their patient can be almost impossible, but they do exist.
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I always get a bunch of shit. You know, I don't care if what I like, write or do isn't very good or intellectually stimulating or deep. But hey, I like it. I swear, why can't people in the community just understand this and let it go? People have preferences and likes/dislikes. We have a certain amount of time to enjoy this so why not? But no, it's not acceptable. It's like I'm making some sort of life threatening mistake by having an interest. You get them in every kind of hobby, it doesn't matter what. These are the kind of people who say you should listen to x band, or read x novel, or watch x movie series, because it's superior to whatever you actually like.
It's even worse on neo-geo.com, where everyone's a stagnated post-gamer with next to nothing left to do but to shit on each other, trying to provoke or troll for little to no reason. Forums really have had this difficulty over the years in maintaining etiquette without admin abuse or completely shitting the bed in every aspect (see, again, neo-geo.com).
I don't really understand why people try to push ideals on to others. What is it to you of what I like and enjoy? I'm really growing to hate the Internet since it's a congregation of Anonymous shit where people are posting faceless, writing wreckless, saying whatever comes to mind without proper thought. I've always been a bit of a realist so I'm not really surprised at people's backlash, but when I show my own colours it's always a window of opportunity for some sniding cunt to think it's his turn to get his dig in.

Yea, you`re pretty rough, Elixir. Recently you called rancor a `creepy, pathetic fuck.` In that instance he came at you first, but if you dont engage him and others and just generally act pleasant, people would go easier on you.
I was pretty douchey for a time on this forum and looking back on the posts I realized that they sounded way more harsh than how I intended, so I toned it down. Now I`m all sugar and honey.
At any rate, I agree with what you said about message boards and the internet. Its amazing how social graces and general decency fly out the window when you`re not actually talking to the person face to face.

I agree with this, though at the same time I think there's nothing wrong with a bit of brutal honesty every once in a while, or where its necessary. It's not like Elixir's the only one who's rough here after all - in fact even I've let it rip a few times too often.NTSC-J wrote:Yea, you`re pretty rough, Elixir. As for the message boards, another example would be videogameinfo.net's forums and chatroom, and the owner's reluctance to take a stricter approach to trolling while choking quite vigorously on other aspects. I actually came here after losing faith in the place since they degenerated in my time on their chatroom as moderator. It's not that he was bad or anything, but some of his decisions and ideals were a bit contrary to what he was trying to do and not many people with a brain telling him what he's doing wrong.
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I don't understand - he came at me first, what am I supposed to do, ignore it? Who the hell stalks my Twitter for dirt? It wasn't even dirt, I stood by what I said. And he SCREENCAPPED IT, as if to say "haha, now you can't delete it", although I wasn't going to. People talk about this forum outside of the forum all the time. It doesn't always get reported. It isn't always a bad thing but it has its moments, pretty much every one of Siren's posts in 2011 somehow got back to me through messengers/irc, complete with a laugh track. His response to my comment in that thread was completely inappropriate. Why not make a thread about shmups forum members, predicting when they will die? That thread was ending up like that anyway.NTSC-J wrote:In that instance he came at you first, but if you dont engage him and others and just generally act pleasant, people would go easier on you.
I mean, I do have this cold personae slash image but I'm not indirectly out to get anyone. It's unfortunate if you think it's weird that I find iDOLM@STER one of the most influential and unique series of the decade. But no, it's not acceptable. There seems to be this I-love-Japanese-games-but-not-those-Japanese-games stance here. Almost like a double standard. I like shmups and want to talk about them. If I said your favourite shmup sucked, would I be exiled from the forum, or would I be categorized as a <Psikyo/Toaplan/Touhou/Cave/Raizing/opposing force> fanboy? Is Otomedius mediocre because of how it appears, or how it plays?
Also, I think a lot of people have been taking the genre for granted in recent times. Since 2009 we've seen an influx of 360 shmups and a select handful of doujin ones (although Touhou seems to be on the decline) and people are already complaining about 2012 being a dry spell. I think we've had it pretty good. What the fuck do you want? Even if there's a dry spell, who cares? Go play that region-free Futari, you wouldn't have been able to without coughing out $950 USD a few years ago, not including an arcade cab or supergun. And I saw Apple Arcade talking about how $55 is "too much" for Futari 360. How times change. It feels like 2007 was a few months ago.
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Honestly, yea, if you can. In that particular case, I'm not sure I would be able to restrain myself either, but in general I try to exercise the rule of "if you don't have anything nice to say...". The other day when obiwanshinobi said yet another jab at Akira being poorly animated I had to stop myself from posting a snarky .gif because I realized wtf are you doing. I may be a dad by the end of the year and getting married and I'm getting angry about some guy not liking a movie from the late 80's that I enjoy. This whole hobby is pretty goofy when you take a step back and look at it.Elixir wrote:I don't understand - he came at me first, what am I supposed to do, ignore it?NTSC-J wrote:In that instance he came at you first, but if you dont engage him and others and just generally act pleasant, people would go easier on you.
This kind of drives me nuts, too. Cave ports were few and far between for like a decade, then this huge explosion, and you still get whining. What happened to "release the port ever" and all that? I paid 800 goddamn dollars for a Muchi Pork board in 2007 and some punk doesn't want to pay retail for a Pork/Sweets double pack with loads of goodies. Barsh! Flimshaw! Also, I think a lot of people have been taking the genre for granted in recent times. People might assume you're staring at your phone because you feel a bit socially awkward away from your desk. Or, maybe they just don't give a shit if they're disturbing you. Perhaps a bit of both. It's one of the reasons I tend to leave the office for lunch...alone. It seems some colleagues just cannot relate to this, and want to be surrounded by their work peers (and discuss work, or something that tenuously connects with work) from 9am-6pm.

but i definitely agree about all the bitching about ports. I think it's pretty damn cool that I can play an arcade game without actually owning an arcade machine (and for wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy cheaper) especially when we get great ports with extras!

No disrespect, but most of things you are complaining about usually are easily remedied if you want them to be. You don't like where you live....move. Don't like your job...quit.
You have a good paying job, stop buying shit to make you feel better/forget whats really bugging you, save some money and get the hell out of dodge. If you aren't happy, make the necessary changes so you are. Nobody is going to simply pop out of thin air and cast a magic spell and make things better for you.
You are the master of your own destiny, take it by the horns and go where you will be happy. If you don't you have nobody to blame but yourself.
Sorry if that seems harsh, but its true, and I was kind of surprised nobody has said this to you here before.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I've cut my hang out time with this friend down to once a month. The thing is, I don't really want to completely stop being friends with him. I understand that if someone isn't a murderer or rapist then they really aren't a bad person, just flawed. This dude is highly flawed, and reaches levels of intolerance and intolerableness comparable to Eric Cartman. So in other words, there is no 'approaching' this kind of person to talk about thier behavior. After knowing him for 15 years & being friends for 5 I've determined his arrogance stems from a lifetime of ridicule and torment from his peers. The only way the guy can be now is to believe that he is better than everyone else and 'prove' it to himself by belittling others instead of trying to level out with the world. I'm willing to bet the thought of considering himself an equal with anybody is nightmarish. I actually feel bad for him.
This is just my opinion from my perspective, as a male friend. I've seen the way the guy talks to women and I would hate to know what it feels like from thier POV.
