I bet they've been busy patching DFK, but it's good that "late comers" keep reminding them on Facebook an our other available channels. Though it might feel like we're closer to getting a patch from 5pb for DOJBLEX than one for Guwange, it might not be a lost cause. It is their only XBLA title after all.

Well, they never patched the exact same screen issues in DSIIX and that will almost certainly be seen as a bigger consideration than a cheapo DLC game that has in all likelihood lost the company money.

True, but do consider (my personal view) that Guwange is in fact a 4:3 game, and DS2 X is tailored to use a 16:9 screen (the 4:3 Arcade mode was a last minute addition). Also it's a retail game, exclusive to Japan where CAVE already have a market. Guwange is their ONLY easy to get worldwide release.

If they patch it, then I'll buy it. It's that simple.

That was a long while ago and turned out to be a "how to play this" guide posted somewhere.

I bought this game because I mistakenly thought I read that a patch had already been released. Oops. Kinda crummy playing on a 20" non-rotated CRT television. I hope this patch happens.

This has made me begin to worry about 4:3 support in MMP/PS for which I ordered the LE.

MMP/PS should be fine. DFK was.

I think Cave is too busy trying to not suck at porting MMP, PS, and DFKBL to care about making Guwange 4:3-friendly.

The same way Mihara is too busy talking shit to gaijin for cloning Tetris TGM to finish the DOJBLEX patch.

Can someone explain the main selling point of this game?

I tried teh demo and just felt is blah. Boring and slow. Am I missing something or is it's selling point simply nostolgia for those who played it when it originally came out?

Its main selling point is that it's a very good STG.

I suppose the shikigami and the setting are mostly what set it apart from other Cave games, but if it's not to your taste then so be it.

Figure out or read about the scoring system, hopefully the lack of crossdressing shotas won't be too much of a deterrant :P

i don't think demos work out too well for this sort of thing as first levels are usually too easy. if you like other cave games you can't go wrong for the 800 points. and you could try it in mame too :)

I'm mame retarded. the only game I play in mame is Battle Garegga and that took me forever to get functioning.

You say it's just 800MSP, but truth is I could invest that in Futari Black Label, (which I plan on getting soon as I get some JP points) Ikuruga, Triggerheart Exilica, Platinum from BoringBlue or costume packs on SSFIV.

I agree with you, I don't think the demo did it justice, which is why I'm on here asking if there is something more to it. What makes this game exciting and fun to play?

You can get futari BL on your own marketplace, no need for japanese ms-points.

Purchase the DLC from inside the game, we went over that in this forum like a million times already.

the same as any other cave/bullet hell game - dodging bullets and scoring points and whatnot. although in some ways it is quite unusual with the shikigami control, scrolling in different directions and the ground obstacles. i'm just going to stick with what i said before, if you like other cave games it's worth a try at 800 points.

you must have spent some cash on futari (much more than 800 points), had you played the first level of that as a demo would you think it was any good? guwange is a really tough game, certainly not boring. imo anyway :)

I would have, yes.

Even with the 4:3 screw up, Guwange is still a worthy purchase for 800 points IMO. I'd rate it higher than all those you listed apart from Hutari Black Lavel.

I highly recommend you give MAME another go and check it out on there, try the shmupmame thread. It's virtually no more complicated than dragging a rom file into your rom folder.

just in case its not clear, i wasn't intending to have a pop at futari, futari is awesome, just thought it was an interesting question :) i'm not sure i'd like many shooters from a 1st level demo in isolation, it's hard to tell though.

Hell yea I would have. I think the first level of Futari is my 2nd favorite (stage 4 wins by a mile) in that game.

Whoah, getting mame to work properly will take as much time as registering on these forums and posting your stuff. You aren't "mame retarded", just unwilling to figure it out. I must ask, why would someone unwilling to make mame work (the platform where you can try 90% of the good existing shmups) even take time to register and post here? I'm not insuling you like "you soldn't come to these boards", it's just that you guys approach makes absolutely no fucking sense to me. Unless all you're interested in is touhou, just get mame, try the classics and try to have some vague understanbding of the genre before expressing your opinions.

You say that but it's not true. I had to download about 6 different roms to get one game to work and about the same amount of different types of mame, then about the same of "tools" to get my computer to read my TE stick, and on top of that every time I want to play I have to spend about 20 minutes remapping computer keys to my stick.

It's not as simple "registering on these forums". Maybe on some computer it is, just not mine.
