Fuck yeah. Image Add a time limit ala Gain Ground or Crack Down, and this could go straight into a cab. INSERT COIN -> SELECT A QUEST -> GOOD LUCK GENTLEMEN
oh, and as bil says, the music is great.
I especially love how Quest 1's upper floor BGM starts out with a bleak dirge uncannily like "Nightmare" from Castlevania III, only to bust into a shuffly, addictive jam. Fits the speedy death dungeoneer aesthetic to a T.

Re: Cavenoir

I read about this game some years ago, but forgot to pursue it further. Glad to hear so many respectable voices attest to its merits. Will definitely have to check it out now!

What do people here think of Konami's more famous roguelike Azure Dreams?

In other news, I finally completed this:

Image

Why "completed"? Believe it or not, I actually bought every part of the game (cart, manual, box, insert) separately.

It was about 100-150€ cheaper than had I bought a CIB one.

I acquired the insert cheaply first (in a stack of loose Famicom inserts). Since that would normally be hardest part to find, I decided to track down the rest independently.

BTW, I still have the insert for Jetsons: Cogswell's Caper lying around if anybody wants it. It's gonna be real hard to find one of those late-era Taito boxes though!

Put an alert out on Yahoo, single manuals do appear there from time to time.

I think the "rescue X fairies" quests might actually be more difficult.

oh, i didn't find the fairies one that bad. i just tried to abuse the fact that when you release them they kill all the enemies on screen. for the monsters one i just had to change my strategy to one that seemed counterintuitive at first, but got me the clear on the second try.

the only one i haven't yet beat at level six is the "orb" one. the fact that the orbs take up most of your item slots means you have to make some tricky decisions about which items to keep.

I also think the orb quests are the most difficult, especially the later ones as your inventory can get completely filled with items.
One guideline I followed for monster kill quests is picking my battles and not mindlessly trying to slay everyone as some are dangerous no matter what.

Wow, the box's rad! I knew the boxart was stylish but I never took a glance at what the box itself looks like.

EDIT : IIRC, you can see the room enemies's remaining HP by pressing Select at any time without costing your turn. This can come in handy for learning what enemies are the most dangerous.

Gotta use all that space for something. The desk is really large. The next best smaller one was too small, unfortunately.

Of course there are, and I'm terrified to ask how much that was. I've always wanted a Grimlock or Soundwave.

ryoma got here :D

i'm happy i got him and wouldn't change my decision, but i feel i'm a littttle disappointed with his articulation and materials quality, in general. doesn't feel up to the quality of later figures in sentinel's 4inch-nel line, and the size of course makes him out of scale with all my other figures. my only other sentinel 4inch-nel line figs are 3 different rockman figures, which are very recent and a couple years after ryoma, here (who just got reprinted along with black getter late last year) - feels like they've much improved the design process since early days. kinda helps that rockman in a 4 inch size actually keeps him in scale with traditional 6 inch scale figures, too. if ryoma had been my first 4inch-nel, he'd have probably been my last - i'm very glad i got my rockman figures first, because they're excellent and engineered in ways that help make them interestingly distinct from figma, revoltech, d-arts, etc.

black getter might honestly be my favorite figure that i own, at this point - it's between him and the max gokin big o (by FAR my most expensive figure) that i have. excellent engineering work in his articulation, incredible sculpt, wonderful design that stays true to the chunky look of getter robo instead of making them taller/thinner, real weight due to the diecast parts, and that cape brings it all together for a super imposing look.

ryoma feels like the cute little companion piece to him more than a figure you enjoy in its own right, but getter robo: armageddon's version of ryoma is such a cutie-pie i just had to have him ;E he's got that very shonen-esque passion that gets your blood boiling and lights your heart on fire!

Oh, not bad. The face looks a bit hurr durr, but that's probably to emulate Ken Nakagawa's shit eating grin style.

did you mean ken ishikawa? i love those faces  seriously, though, his faces are great, i really like them a lot. really dig those thick eyebrows, exaggerated expressions, etc. i like a lot of go nagai's boy faces, too. wish they'd have been even more influential, honestly. i'm mostly just a getter robo fan via armageddon, but i've flipped through little bits of the manga and watched clips from the other animated work. ishikawa's untimely demise always made me too afraid to get invested, since the story technically never finished. same reason i have never really tried to get completely into tezuka's hi no tori, too.

he has another more sedate looking semi-grim/confident expression, but i wanted him with that big ol angry face for this pose

feel like with how few accessories this figure came with it should have had at least three faceplates, but only came with two. this is a bit of a problem with later 4inch-nels, too - really drastically minimal accessories when compared to stuff like figma (though with more and better articulation).

http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail ... URE-018301

you can check out all the promo pics, there!

there's also a hayato figure that comes with static musashi and benkei figures that i kinda wanted to pick up, but can't find for a reasonable price. there's a getter-1, too, that i'm a little tempted by.

Gotta love that OG Neo Geo box art.
