Holy shit, an intuitive Cave scoring system!?

This does sound like the best DDP yet.
I can't wait.

Yeah, it's not like the site includes new scoring system info nobody here mentioned because they were too busy making unfunny jokes or anything. OH WAIT
No initials input and high scores that erase themselves is "properly," huh?
Neither of which matter to people who'd rather play and get good at the games than satisfy some PCB fetish.
Or people who like to play local with their friends, or people who like to see their gains as they continue playing.

I've never owned a PCB in my life. Are you kidding me.

Why they couldnt just keep using the ds/espgal2/dfk port engine is beyond me. I much prefer that then the overly fancy akai katana one or the crappy 3d mmp/ps one.

Add "people who want to be able to see the game without it getting squashed because they don't have a 60-inch HDTV". I've got widescreen TVs in my room and Akai Katana's port still shows black bars making it difficult. Then there's the 4:3 zooming issue in Arcade mode, general 4:3 support in Deathsmiles II X....you get the idea. :(

The "are you kidding me" was "your points are terrible, are you kidding me."

It had nothing to do with cabs and PCBs.

They have cursed themselves with the 1.5 and Black Label releases. Turns buyers off from the originals.

Without a doubt...the LE thing pissed me quite off too. I don't trust them anymore with their new releases.

The LE bit was over the line, they basically admitted later to having already had the plans before the original was released. The 2 modes from LE should have been included in the original, then it would have been superb. So their problem now is people who are waiting for 1.5, if a 1.5 doesn't happen then they lose a sale completely because the person will either buy the original used or not at all.

Marketing full priced arcade PCBs to home buyers was never going to work for long.

I just wish they'd port to PC.

Cave on Steam would be sooooo awesome.

Not going to lie, I would buy their entire library all over again if it was on steam. It's just so much more convenient than my J-360, my dorm is pretty fucking small so I can only play it when I go back home.

To be honest, I'm not so sure Cave and Steam are a good fit if Cave goes in with the same pricing expectations they do at retail. I don't see a lot of people outside this forum buying these games at $40+ apiece. The only success stories in the genre on Steam are all at the $5-10 price point.

They might make a quick buck off their back catalog, but their newest titles? No way.

A good time to link this piece: http://penny-arcade.com/report/editoria ... pers-and-p
"On the first day of the Steam summer sale, we earned more money than Jamestown's entire earnings up to that point times three."
I'm not actually convinced about this article's argument. Still, you have to seriously wonder how much a Cave game would make on Steam if they dropped it to $5 for a day.

Well its one of the Jamestown devs who said it. I'm just as suss as you regarding lack of hard figures though.

To be honest I'm not sure if Cave will benefit from Steam. StarCreator's right about the pricing expectations IMO, and it's not the first time Cave's messed up in this regard when it comes to new platform ventures. I hear so many people freak out about the price of Cave's iPhone apps for example because they're so damn expensive compared to anything else to the extent that saying "well you're paying for high-quality product" doesn't get into their heads.

Of course, if they did this on Steam they wouldn't be the first Japanese developer or publisher to mess up in that regard...

In the long run, Steam might not be that good for pure profit for the reasons already mentioned. But is there a better outlet for building up potential fans and customers, right now? When you have a captive audience of serious game purchasers? I think Cave gets the idea, with this Cave World effort, but the App Store is seriously harsh in comparison.

There are a surprising number of people who will try any game as long as it's 1) on Steam, and 2) cheap. And, of course this is anecdotal, but I just heard from someone who is seriously interested in trying Cave games if only they came out on a platform they owned--meaning Steam, basically.
